Can you tell a story in pictures? Lets try!
We have had several threads recently on the connection between pictures and stories, with lots of spirited discussion. This challenge is a variation on that theme, so read carefully to figure out what were trying to do here, then
submit your own photo-story in its own thread titled Photo-Story: (your title). Your story may be about an event, a place, or an idea. There are resources linked below to help you. I strongly recommend Maptia, a high quality and free subscription site that has some of the best photo stories youll ever see. You can even submit your own, and be published alongside the likes of Steve McCurry and David du Chemin.
Maptias summary of the value of photo stories: "We believe that thoughtful storytelling can make a tangible, positive impact in the world, and that all of us, in every corner of the globe, have unique stories to share: stories that inspire us to get out there and make the most of our time on Earth, stories that foster empathy and understanding for other cultures, other places, and other ways of life, stories that empower us to care for our fragile environment and to support those people and places that need our help.
A Dictionary Definition of photo-story: an essay or short article consisting of text and numerous photographs.
WHAT TO SUBMIT: Your story can have a narrative, but try to keep it brief and let your images do some talking. Introduce your story in the main message and add additional text in the title boxes for your images (those boxes will hold more than they look like). Include at least 3 images but no more than 7. The images should tie together into a cohesive whole to support/illustrate the narrative, so think about sequence, framing, processing, and other factors.
Be sure to start your own new thread for your submission and title it "Photo Story : (Your Title)" so it can be critiqued and indexed properly for later reference.HOW TO CRITIQUE: As before, think about your emotional response along with the usual technical considerations. Also, are the images connected in terms of subject and processing to form a series? Are they alike/different enough to be interesting as a group? Does the sequencing work? Do the images tell a cohesive story? What suggestions do you have for the photographer?
