I purchased the camera with 16-50 and 50-210 lenses. I take a lot of wildlife and zoo pictures. I need more length to get close enough to the subject. any ideas?

1) get a longer lens somewhere around 500mm
2) get a 1.4 or 2.0 extender
3) crop your images in post

I checked b & h and am unable to find an extender that will work with an emount lens. as for 500mm lens-can't seem to find one to fit the mount either. any info will be appreciated.

I am afraid that you will be better served using a dSLR and a long lens. Adding a 1.4X tele-converter should be nice too.

I agree with lloyd2's remark of a longer lens. Unfortunately, Sony's 500 mm lens is $12K.

However there is the Sigma 150-500 for $800 through Amazon. 4.5 star rating from 435 reviews.

You will need to invest in an adaptor that will allow you to use other lens mounts on your E mount camera.

Sony makes two that work well with the A6000; the LA-EA3 (for A mount lenses with built-in focus motors) and the LA-EA4 (for A mount lenses that don't have built in focus motors and require a screw drive in the camera body to actuate the lens focus mechanism.)

This will give you access to a number of Sony A mount lenses with longer focal lengths.

I suggest the LA-EA3 plus the Sony 70-300mm G lens; a combination that will give you not only the extra reach you are looking for, but quality optics as well.

GOOD LUCK!

BTW, with either Sony A to E mount adapters you can use ANY A mount lens on the A6000. That includes Sigma and Tamron super telephoto lenses, so yes; you can get up to 600mm focal lengths, which on the A6000 is equivalent to 900mm on a full frame camera.

Pretty good reach eh? ;)

At B & H, they do sell cat (mirror) lenses that will do the trick. They require a t-mount to e-mount adapter. Aperture is fixed, so set your ISO to "auto" and use a shutter speed of 1,000th or faster. The depth of field is minimal, so focusing is challenging, but with practice you can get some good shots with these lenses. http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/50855015

Welcome to the world is Sony. There are good reasons that pro wildlife photographers do not use them. Several reasons.

the sony ea4 adaptor and a 150-600 tamron super telephoto would be the best option currently available.

Remember folks; Sony E mount cameras, particularly the A6000, is meant to be a "pocket" style camera with small size a primary design consideration.

Yes, you can shoot wildlife with it... but only if you go outside it's primary design and buy the needed accessories to fit longer focal length lenses to that small camera.

In that case, you can use a large number of lenses designed for wildlife photography from Sony, Minolta, Tamron, Sigma, and even Canon and Nikon if you are willing to focus in manual mode.

Scary world indeed. That 210 on there is a 320mm equivalent, and my Olympus m4/3 with a $500 zoom at 300 is 600mm equivalent.

Of course, nothing would compare to a D810 with a 150-600.

I must have missed the bit about the OP being a Pro Wildlife shooter. I don't usually react to a fanboy post like this but sometimes a snobbish remark from a poster with, judging by the signature, plenty of money gets right up my nose. Why do people feel the need to snipe at brands other than their own?
