This site does lens comparisons, and you may be able to find the Sigma. See what "soft" means.

I got the 150-500 Sigma last summer...and I like it a lot....I use it for wildlife and sports with excellent results...once you learn and understand the lens parameters...I am sure you can spend more and get more but I have found Great Value for the money...for my uses on a 70D...with this lens.. :!: :!:

I have had this lens for half a year and I love it. For $1000 you just can't beat it. The image stabilization is amazing. Images at 600 mm are crisp most of the time but are occasionally soft (usually in low light from focusing troubles). If it is soft with a camera body:lens combination, it can be corrected with the dock.
Here is a review on a cropped sensor and full frame Canon:

While I don't disagree with your thoughts and decision, i have had the 150 - 500 for 2 years and have been very happy with its' quality, both build and iq. Whether full out or not the pictures have been sharp.

I shoot it on a Canon 6d. The image stabilization is very good on this lens. I just wish these big lens were a little faster because they need a lot of light.

Good luck with the new 150-600, by all accounts they sound very good.

Time will tell ??
