I am putting together a Slide Show of the local Civil War Re-enactment with some cool Civil War music, but I don't want it to be too long and boring. Any suggestions to how long is too long? Thanks.

Philip

if i was watching there. length of each slide would be more concerning for me. if they are interesting captures. length of show would be secondary.

i did lil google search just see what was available for my curiosity. this what popped up on my search. guess could rephrase it see what else pop'd up.

good luck, have fun.

Forty minutes to an hour, depending on content.

Maximum of 20-30 minute segments at an average of 12 slides per minute (*) with 3-5 minute intermissions between segments. Maximum of 3 segments.

(*) slides may be shown for a longer period of time if technical in nature or if long perusal is required. Note that the display time for individual slides may vary.

Are you going to be narrating it or is it just pictures and music? If the former, I'd cap it at ~45' before having a break. If the latter, 30' tops. Good Luck.

You don't think 30 minutes is too long for a slide show?

Yes. I would say 25 minutes max, with time for discussion afterwards.

I have put many slide shows togther. I assume you are going to narrate it? 15-30 minutes is acceptable. Allow about 5 seconds per image unless you want to make a special point.

Yes 30 mins is to long! How many images do yo have? A 15 min. Slide show should work fine. 3 seconds on the image and 1 second transition.

I did one for my sons wedding. Got my pictures set up and Michelle's too. Did Tim first and then hers and a few at the end for both of them two gather. I started it while folks were eating and it ran about 28 minutes. Folks like it so much I had to start it again.:)

I prescribe breaking show at 10 minutes ... discuss... then another section. I find the Ashampoo Slide Show to be among the best programs for Slide Shows.

Ted Talks are famous and effective:
"It [18 minutes] is long enough to be serious and short enough to hold people’s attention."

Four to Six minutes is the average attention span for an adult. And that's after they have been fed and watered.

That depends entirely on your audience. If they want to see every little detail, they could probably sit there for hours. If it's presentation in the local library, maybe a bit shorter. Of course, the quality of the show matters, too. You'll want good fades and music, but make sure you're not violating copyrights with the music. I know a guy who does wildlife slideshows, and he has to use generic music.
