I have not yet handled a 4/3 mirrorless setup but what I read is fascinating. Can any brand of these lenses fit any other brand of camera?

There are only two companies making 4/3rd cameras, Olympus and Panasonic. Their lenses are interchangeable.
will
Nope, but you can adapt just about any other brand lens to it. In fact I just ordered an adaptor 5 minutes ago to fit my medium format Mamiya 645 lenses to my em1.
I have two M43 cameras one is an Olympus EPL-5 and the other is a EM10,
both cameras have Panasonic lenses on them.
Sigma produce two M43 lenses, 19mm and a 30mm primes, these are both excellent lenses with superb image quality and cost much less than Olympus or Panasonic lenses.
It was my choice to go the M43 route a few years ago and I would never go back to DSLR, I have always used Olympus but that was my decision but Panasonic Lumix cameras are just a good.
So go ahead and and treat yourself to an M43 camera you won't regret it.

Keep in mind, there are 4/3rds cameras (older DSLR cameras like the Olympus 420) and the newer
micro 4/3rds (m4/3) which are mirrorless, like the Olympus OM DE M5II or one of the many Panasonic models.
The older 4/3 lenses won't fit the new
m4/3 cameras without an adapter, but the newer Olympus/Panasonic lenses and cameras have the same mount and are interchangeable. On thing to keep in mind in that case is that most Olympus lenses have no image stabilization because that feature is built into to their bodies.
Practically ANY Micro Four-Thirds lens can be used on any brand of Micro Four-Thirds (m43 or MFT) camera. Very minor limitations apply in some cases. Four Thirds lenses can be adapted to m43 cameras, but with more limitations or annoyances.
Canon EF lenses adapt to m43 quite well, using MetaBones SpeedBooster adapters. Other brands adapt, too, but with more limitations.
4/3 is looking better every day. Thank you all for taking the time to help me out here.
Panasonic and Olympus each manage image stabilization differently. Some camera bodies have it built in. Some lenses have it built in. In some combinations you may get a stabilized lens and a stabilized body. In other combinations, you might be doing without stabilization.

There are forums dedicated to the 4/3rds format.

Any brand in M4/3 are completely functional without adaptors.
