I am suddenly having a small problem with Outlook 2010.
I used to be able to hold down my ALT. key while hitting the Colon : and also hit the Right paren. ) and when I released them I got a beautiful smiley face.
This no longer happens.
Anybody have a solution?

I use 2010 too - I enter a : and a ) and it converts to a smiley face - no ALT key required

Thanks for the help, but all I get when I try that I get :)
I can't figure just what I've done to change Outlook.

Check your format - if it is plain text, you cannot get the smiley face...

it must be a windows update thing, I'm still on Office 2007 and use outlook quite a bit, I know it's the older version, but it still does everything I require, but of late I've entered a couple of new contacts, names, addresses and telephone numbers, but when I search for any of them outlook does not find them, but when I search manually they are there ?????

Also, go to file/options/mail, and second box down on the right is "Spelling and AutoCorrect...", and then a box named "AutoCorrect Options...". Make sure that the substitution that you want is still in the list.

In following the usual path taken on UHH, why don't you use Thunderbird for email instead.

If you hit the : first and then the ) and get a smiley face, do this: first skip a space then type the ) then backspace and type the : = :)
