If you are new to DSS - make sure you do this..

Once DSS loads the final stacked and calibrated image, go to the processing section on the left side of your screen and select "save picture to file". Then check mark at the bottom of the dialog box that opens where it says to "embed changes but don't apply them". This will save the image as a 16 bit linear image file, which is what you want to start with.

What is the advantage, what would it normally save it as???

If you're going into Photoshop or light room it doesn't matter.
