I just received my new Sigma 150-600 Sport and couldn't wait until daylight so, the moon was nice and handy. I do not intend (at least at this point) to be doing Astronomical Photography but, wanted to post a few images to see what more experienced folks think of them.
One image was with a D7100 and the other with a D810 mounted on a tripod, but I did not use mirror-up or delay. These shots relied on the lens Optical Stabilization (OS) only. These are not cropped exactly the same but, I don't believe that will matter for this purpose.
Please let me know what you think.
Beautiful work Bill, both are excellent shots but I may be biased in my thoughts, I do believe the D810 is a little crisper.
Nice shots and welcome to the 150-600mm club. You will love it.
I think I agree with Craig. The 810 shot has a shade better resolution of a hard to shoot, very overly lit subject.
I like running around the edges and looking at the detail there.
Thanks guys. I'm not certain these would be better shot with mirror up, delayed cable release or not. And I don't know if the lens needs any micro adjustments on the focus either. Now that I have some daylight, I just need to find tie to do some testing, more likely just play with it bit first  :-)
I have no doubt I'm going to love this lens....none! :-D

My Tamron 150-600mm worked great without micro focusing.

Most agree that the Sport works excellent right out of the box. However, it seems that for some, that excellence can be made even better by micro tuning via the USB dock. Being a pixel peeper that likes the option of cropping myself, I love this option.
My guitar sounds great when I tune it by ear but, when I use a good tuner, it sound even better, though 17 out of 20 people would never know the difference.
Very nice. But wait until the moon wanes to less than 50% and see the crater definition you can get then. I think you will enjoy it.
