I've been drooling over one, but now I'll wait until a fix is found.
Prepare a thin tab of plastic that will fit perfectly into the gap. Carefully slide it in, making sure it fits snug enough not to fall out too easily. Now all your hot shoe accessories will be aligned with the contacts whenever pushed into the shoe all the way.
Problem solved.

Use a Nikon flash. Problem solved. Its a pretty flimsy reason to put off buying a camera. Millions of D750 owners have never heard of this "problem".
Never been an issue at all with mine, or any of my rental units. All my flashes fit and function perfectly.

Bought mine a year ago in Dec. and curious I looked at mine and see no gap. And I have had no problems firing with my SB600 or any remote triggers.

Grab a 5 lb sledge hammer and lightly tap the hot shoe until the gap is closed. ;-)
