Been Lurking a Bit But New to Posting!
My name is Monique and I have a Canon 60d which I received as a gift from my husband about a month ago. I'm very interested in becoming a professional photographer and taking maternity, newborn, family and pet photography.
I have taken a basic digital photography course, which I enjoyed tremendously.
I am now looking to gain experience photographing people so I can build a portfolio and increase my skills. I look forward to learning from this forum, sharing ideas, and bettering my photography!

Welcome Monique...I would suggest that for now you just get out and shoot, learn your camera, learn from mistakes (we all make them) and most of all have fun.
Learn all the funtions of your camera, learn to see light, read all you can find on shooting, and then shoot about 10k pictures and if you pay attention to the results you will make it. 1 month is NOT long enough to do all of this. :-)
Welcome Monique!!!!! Great start and Beautiful model!!! Ditto on advise given!!
Taking photo courses and studying the Masters is the way to go...Experience by shooting thousands of photos will give you some insight as to what you need to know to become a professional . Desire to be professional is really not enough...experience then becomes the best teacher. While in the learning mode be sure to have fun...if it becomes hard work it may not be worth it.

Welcome to the site. I too will ditto the above. Have fun taking pictures and learning. Keep in mind everyone on this site was a beginner at one time. Learn the functions of your camera and know how to delete what you don's like. The two most used buttons on my camera are the shutter release and the delete. That is the beauty of digital.
Oh and have fun that is the most important part.
Welcome to the HOG, by the time you have worn that camera out you will have probably met your goal. Just don't get discouraged, learn everything you can from those
with more experiance, it's out there just look around.
beautiful daughter.

Welcome, Monique. Beautiful daughter.
Thank you for all the welcomes and the advice! My husband keeps telling me to just have fun and not be so set on being a professional or I will lose my passion for it.
I have been taking pictures like crazy, but this camera is so different from my old Olympus so I'm adjusting!
Thank you again!
