Encouraged by yesterday's results in
Pinhole Experiment #3 I thought I'd try again.
This morning I woke with a thought about how to make the hole smaller and went about making it happen.
With a new piece of aluminium foil I flattened it as much as I could to remove the wrinkles. From there I placed it on a hard flat surface and laid a metal ruler with a small hole over it to make it as flat as possible and poked the tiniest hole in it. The thought was that by keeping the foil flat it I could make a smaller hole and thereby better focus.
Checking again with a flashlight I could barely see the hole and taped the foil in place on the tin circle over the existing hole I had cut earlier. I checked it again with the flashlight to verify the hole placement and taped everything to the camera body.
Placing it on a tripod, with a 10 second timer, I started with a 5 second exposure in Shutter Priority, but couldn't see anything. I checked the camera settings, made sure everything was taped in place and tried it again moving the time up as I went.
At 30 seconds an image appeared and it looked better than ever. I was encouraged thinking the smaller the hole the longer the exposure so I took it outside and tried it again. Happy with the results I drove to 'The Shake' and gave it a go.
The weather was severely overcast, almost to fog, so I had to double the time of my last exposure but it was there. Not pretty, but it was there. Hoping to get better results I worked it up and down the Shutter settings, checked the ISO to 400, worked Exposure Compensation and cycled the Metering Modes. Not much helped and I found the best images between 5 to 8 seconds depending on the light.
I'll post another with lessons learned, but for now I'm putting this on hold until I buy a body cap. It's been fun and I'll be back at this soon.
Another day, another lesson learned! S-

Short backstory - The Mentryville Shack is my albatross as I know something is there, but can never quite capture it.
