Going back to my Red Dot....

I had my Tasco Red Dot sight as an aiming device before on my telescope. But it burned out.
I went to Walmart a while back to try and replace it, but all they had was a Gamo thingo with a green dot. So I got one and been using it for several months now.
1. The brightness isn't adjustable.
2. The dot is too darned big.
3. And the worst is it's plastic.
A long time ago, I tried Orion's 7228 sight. But it was too expensive, for being all plastic.
So I ordered
a new Tasco Red Dot sight today.
I missed the faint tiny red dot on setting #1 I could bury in a star and know I was dead on. That star would be in my eyepiece for fine adjustment.
Or switch to setting #11 to dial in on sunbathers down on the beach. :hunf:
(OK, not really. But I could...) :-P
Sounds like you are going to be back on Track Sonny
I too have that Orion 7228. Seems that it can't maintain a solid alignment. Every time I use it, I have to re-calibrate.

It's hard for me to have confidence in plastic sighting devices.
I'm hyper-critical of my accuracy, being a High Power rifle affectionate-toe.
The red dot site worked right up to my hopes for me before.
I too use a rifle scope. i modded a picatinny rail on a Vixen shoe, with the use of hot glue i do not change the crosshairs from rifle to scope. can even attach the 3x scope that came with the EOTech sight, even though i never have needed to.

And I thought you were talking about Columbia red dot bowling balls.
My bad. I figured since no one is taking pictures you were starting a bowling team.
  :P
