Pellets from what?

For you birdy folks on this forum, I'm hoping you can help. I've googled this to death and am getting no where.

I'll post a picture of them.

For the past 3 weeks I have found what I believe are regurgitated or 'spit out' wads of crushed up sunflower seed shells in one of my feeders. Sort of like an owl pellet I guess. But these are 1/2" to 3/4" long and 1/4" wide, oblong or crescent shaped. Appears to be undigested, chewed up shells only, dry. Doesn't look like feces.

And they only show up at night. Feeder is cleaned each am, and none of these pellets show up during the day after repeated use by Green Jays, Great Kiskadee, Black-crested Titmouse, Northern Cardinal, Clay-colored Thrush, Curve-billed Thrasher , and occasionally House Finches. But each morning there are 10 to 20 of these pellets mostly deposited in the corners.

Feeder is a platform feeder setting on concrete. Black oil sunflower seeds only.

Any idea what bird or critter is leaving them?

I would dare say that the Racoon is at work.Be thankful that he doesn't leave anything else. Sometimes after eating berries they leave you foul smelling presents.

If you determine who the seedy culprit is, I'd drag'em into an "apellet" court, and make'em quit !

He may have a baseball player visiting his feeder at night, I've seen lots of them spit up sunflower seed hulls!

I want to know too...I have narrowed it down to flying squirrels or night hawks...they don't come every night...will be setting up a trail cam to see just what it is...I get the pellets occasionally and it's driving me crazy too.

If anyone ever had a perfect excuse to buy automatic night photography gear, you certainly do. Get on Google and see what's available. Then post pictures of what making that mess.

These were also reported for several weeks before the famed cover-up Roswell, New Mexico crash landing. Be careful!!

I set up a camera with trap focus for two nights.
First night got no pictures, next night I got pictures.
About day break 6:18 AM the camera took pictures
of Green Jay, didn’t see him throw up. But there
was pellets when I got up.

Will keep trying to catch it throwing up the pellets.

Thanks for all the posting
