The IR does not work for me and the people look artificial. The overall look reminds me of winter with snow on the ground and frozen snow on the branchers. But the people are dressed for summer.

An idyllic day I wish to be part of! And no cell phone in sight :)

The guy on right looks like he might be holding something but I think it's directions to the nearest ice cream parlor.

Linda,

I tried to figure out whether the gent you're talking about actually had something in his hands, or not. If he did it's not a cell phone as I don't know anyone who holds that device with both hands???

Thanks for you comments. Very much appreciated, as always.

Jim

Your response is most civil and I appreciate your politely agreeing to disagree. I remember decades ago when people used IR film or Wratten filters to the same end. Never did much for me.

If you ever drive back up to Volo, let me know. Perhaps we could share a day of water lilies.

I kinda like the summer scene changed into a winter scene. But (there is always a But) I find that tower thingy distracting. Instead of focusing on an interesting landscape, and trying to figure what each of the people are doing, I keep focusing on that tower.

That would be nice. I would be my pleasure.

IR has held a fascination for me ever since I was introduced to it by Minor White - way back when. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I took to it and began using Wratten 29F over the lens for both b/w and IR film. You can imagine my disappointment when Kodak ceased production of HIE100. I still have five rolls in my freezer. I'll put them on eBay someday.

The thing about HIE100 is that it had no antihalation backing. This caused a bounceback around the highlights that I found pleasurable, LifePixel converted cameras do not have this "fault". Someteimes progress is a pian in the butt.

Thanks Bo,

I have thought about that and have some snaps of the scene without the folks. I could post but the space is not as strong and a little confusing. So, I decided to put my attention to this one and do the best I could.

Thanks for your honest critique. Much appreciated.

Jim

I like the IR effect and each time you post one of yours I start thinking about Getting a roll of SFX 200 and a filter and giving it a go come Summer. Hear it's more manageable than the Kodak stuff.

Wonder what this would look like without the crowds, Think that the varying tones in the trees and the way IR shows the flowers in the beds around the fountain would carry it.

As I read the responses Mr. Hill I find them all to have legitimacy in their own right. There are very few if any of your IR shots that I find dull. I will say a Jim Hill IR shot, without Mr. Hill's people whether they look real or not, would be like a day without sunshine.

Thanks for your comments, Dan. Very much appreciated.

HIE 100 required total darkness for loading and unloading the camera. A changing bag was needed in the field and light tight canisters, which were provided with each roll. For loading into a developing can it was necessary to load the film onto the reel in a changing bag or in a totally dark dark room. The slightest light leak would ruin most of the roll of film. It was difficult but I surely do miss it.

The very tall guy had to be moved from his original spot. I don't have any idea why he got so tall. and the fat guy on the left looking funny was put into place because the space seemed empty. I probably need to replace that fellow with someone more real looking. And, I think I can shorten the tall guy. Everything else is absolutely natural in the photograph. The way it was.

Thanks for your comments, Frank. Your critique is much appreciated.
