A study in aperture. Canon 7D Tamron 150-600mm IS enabled. Focal length 400mm.
Rested on my truck window guard and the moon is near zenith. ISO and aperture with the shot.

Looking good! I have done some aperture testing too with the 150-600 Tamron and I too notice that it is sharper at some higher F-Stops, and 400mm can be sharper than 600mm. But I have been able to make 600mm sharp too.
But as it is right now, I didn't know if we still had a moon. I haven't seen the night sky it quite a few weeks. I wonder if it will ever stop raining?

I am bias to the f/8 for your shot and what I like to shoot it at also.
Nice test Jim. As Jim H says I'm not so sure there is a Moon right now.

It's out there. It seems to think its fun to play hide and seek right now.
I've been lucky so far and been able to play. I hope it continues but someone in California keeps pushing the clouds my way. :evil:
The jet stream is supposed to be shifting North thanks to a nice high pressure developing over Arizona.

Nice shots Abuqushutterbug. I appreciate your showing the different apperatur settings and I'm impressed how sharp the shots are w/o a tripod. Last night was the first night here in a month with no clouds and it was soooo CLEAR!
But at -10°f I chickened out. To bad cuz those are the best nights.
