I'm looking to purchase the Vello Wireless ShutterBoss II Remote Switch with Digital Timer Kit (for Select Nikon DSLRs) and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it?

Did the search, but not much in there.

Have one that I use with a d600 and a d7100. Works and expands on the built in abilities.
Nikon has two connector types, dc2 on cameras like mine and ten pin, (not sure what they call it) on the pro cameras.

Check your manual to see what's right for you.

I have used several Vello remotes/intervalometers of various Nikon bodies. No problems.

Everything I have from B&H/Vello has been good and the price is right. ;)

Well, it works. It is not as robust as Nikon gear, which seems to prove their worth by lasting and lasting. The button can jam, don't over press.

I guess it comes down to that Vello is not as robustly built, but it isn't expensive either. Get a small hard shell case for it. The one expensive battery on the receiver can discharge while stored in the unit. An issue I have read elsewhere and realized mine shared that problem, there is no hard switch to turn it off, just a timer, it must trip itself on when jostled or something. Perhaps a slight energy "leak". No big deal though, remove the battery and store it in the hard shell case.

The cord is not robust... I've had to replace mine, couldn't find the break. New one works, but I decided on those times when a regular cord release will work, that the Nikon brand one is a beast... albeit expensive, if I had bought it first, after adding up the broken ones inbetween, it would have been cheaper! LOL

As mentioned before, check your connection- there are differences in pin connections within the Nikon brand.

Vello has a Bluetooth version that I just bought on a one day sale from B&H. It was $35, normally $65...I think.
The advantage is that I can program it from my iPhone or iPad. I'm waiting for delivery so I can't say how well it works.
At least I won't have to over-press the button.

I have a Vello Freewave not the exact one you mention and love it. It was great to use when shooting portraits of a family. They did not know when I was going to click and it made for great shots.

My experience with the Vello FREEWAVE has been excellent.

The original battery for the receiver did not last very long, resulting in a failure to function. Once replaced, I've had no problems at all. In use it on a regular basis with my observation of eagle nests.

Based on my experience, I would recommend that you give the SHUTTERBOSS II a try.
