Have I suffered a sudden onset G.A.S. attack or am I a savvy shopper?
I was at my local Best Buy this morning and saw the ad under the Nikon D610. When I read it I thought it was a little off as I didn't figure the 80-300mm lens was so much. I came home and checked the Nikon site and found it WAS that expensive. I went right back and ordered the combination. It arrives Thursday.
When you take the SKU:2063106 & enter it into the search function on Best Buy it shows the combination to be $2299.99 on sale.
Looks like a good deal. I love my D610.

You should buy 3 or 4, and then sell them on ebay and you might get free camera!
When you spend money on an impulse it is always bad news. Now if you have been looking for the best deal around, it is good news.
Very good, call it what you want!

Surely that's a question of judgment? Sometimes one sees something and does not buy, and by the time you decide to do it it's long gone.
If the item is something that you either want or need, is a good deal, and you can afford it then impulse can be a good thing, especially if you have done enough research ahead of time to know that it is a good deal. Some ( by no means all) of my impulse decisions have been among the best decisions that I have ever made. Some of the opportunities I have missed I still regret.
Best Buy has incredible deals on occasion. I got a comparable deal on a 80-400 lens a couple of months ago. No one in the store would explain the reduced price, but there it was--for about a week, and then back to the normal price.
The 610 with a 28-300 is a great match. Congratulations.

If you know camera and lens prices, and see a deal like this, it is not impulse buying--it is just smart.

My judgment was that by the time my income tax refund got to me the deal would be gone.

Actually that's not an original idea! I wish I had bought 1/2 dozen 7D II (mark 2) at holiday or 6 D last year.
7 D II 999 USD
6 D 800 USD
The OP is buy for about the whole sale price if Nikons continue as of today if they slide then a different story.

I'm not sure that I can guarantee that I've ever had an original idea, even though I lay claim to some, but I've definitely had several good ones!
They're not all about money, either, but some of them are stories never to be told!
