An IR photograph that I have wanted to do something with ever since I made it. Finally, decided to compose a little haiku and put the verse in a border.

C&C welcome.

I like the composition; nice diagonals going on. And the dragonflies give the image added charm! Very nice, Jim. Among all the lily pad photos I've encountered over the years, this one stands out.

The marbleized arrangement of small and large Lilly pads make this a very memorable photo.

I like what you have done here. Never a best way of cropping something like this that goes on and on. Could you extend the right edge so that the dragonfly is not so close to the edge? I would like the lily pad in the upper right to be brighter. Being as dark as it is leaves me wondering if it should be part of the composition or left out. Would you consider moving the haiku from the border to the big pad on the left? Might open up the creative options. The haiku is nice.

I read Debbie's comment, looked at the image again, and immediately saw alabaster - the power of suggestion :)

I like the visual of the words "summer flies snoozing" - lazy, warm, not a care.

Many layers to enjoy in this beautiful work, Jim!

Lot of good suggestions. I could extend the right edge. I think there is more in the original? And I could make the lily pad you mention brighter.

I have tried verse within a photograph but I think it weakens either the verse or the photograph. I have become an un-fan of Hiaga (pictures with verse within them). It's fine for some but I am not able to make it work. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough?

Thanks for your suggestions and compliments. I do appreciate both very much.

This is beautiful Jim. I am overly fond of waterlilies and have droves of them in my photo folder, but this presentation is so totally unique, they look like delicate porcelain plates set out for dinner.

You've done as well as can be done with the composition, the lilies basically insist on their own composition and you just decide where to crop it. I like the slight unbalance created by the dragonfly. It sort of meets my need for imperfection.

Thank you for sharing this lovely piece.

I definitely like the lines in your photo; it seems as if the rule of thirds appears in numerous places. First-rate work, I think.

Hi Judy,

Thanks so much for your lovely comments. Made my day!

Lily pads are not so common here and I envy you for having access to them in the millions with all manner of critter abounding in and around. Had to go up north to Volo Bog before I found something I thought might work.

I know what you mean re: a "need for imperfection." That rings a familiar bell for me.

Jim

Very striking image Jim.
Is there such a term as "structured randomness"? if so, this would be the textbook example.
The plain border sets this one off just right. I'll pass on commenting on the literary appendage.

Rook and Debbie already hit the major point.
I really like this.
