I was walking around Asheville before sunrise on the 1st and saw this blanket. I don't know it's story, but I wanted to capture it. I am not too concerned at this time about the tech side of the pic, I wanna know what you think of the idea.

Thanks!

Taken from a different angle or at blanket's level maybe, but as is not much to hold my attention.

Have you thought to crop the image just above the word Financial? S-

Now you know you still excite me
I know you love me like I am
Just once more I wish you'd love me
On a blanket on the ground

Chefnell My man that is one great old cheesy song. A classic and Tammy at her best.
Gotta tell you tho its not hitting any high notes as an image.
Different angle maybe not sure but its saying nothing as it is to me.

As a photograph ...I have to agree, not much.
But, as a story telling photo...well, I just know there's a mom somewhere in that building with a cranky baby, juggling a diaper bag, purse, trying to make a cell phone call and wondering where that blanket is.

Or a wandering mutt found it and wrapped himself up against the cold and is waiting for someone to come along with a bagel before he moves :) :)

Well, it's different. Beyond that, I don't see much.

If this were one of a few "teasers" for a body of work dealing with "evidence that some slept here but has moved on..." it could conceivably take on a life of its own. I'd be the last to suggest that you forget it and move on to other endeavors!
Let's see more of what you have in mind.

Hi Chef,

It might be beneficial for you to also post this image in Post Processing section. There a a number of guys there that can drqw anything out of an image to the point of nearly unrecognizable.

I am not that proficient with post. I can do a few little tricks that I have learned for myself and have applied a couple of them to this photograph.

I have looked at your list and find that there a some decent images there. This one, sadly, isn't one of them. I don't think you will find many that disagree with me.

With that in mind I decided to look into the frame to see what it might have been that excited you enough to take the picture. It is clear that you fixated on the blanket as it is in a very prominent position. I could have discarded it and gone for the other stuff in the image but I decided it should be a topic rather than being dismissed.

I have shortened distances, changed light balance, and cropped out some elements that mean nothing to the picture. I tried to create a feeling of depth. I brought out the texture in the left wall with the bank sign. I also changed to a b/w image. I could have gone wild with saturation of the colours, which I am certain someone in PP will do if you decide to post the original there.

I think this version is closer to what you felt when you released the shutter. Not certain of this. The second version is without the blank and a help to the space, a little.

Thanks for posting and allowing me to re-work it.

I do, but I can't win 'em all.

Let me check your list.

(Edit: Just checked your list. No comment.)

Thanks for your work here. I think you have done what could be done with the image. When I saw the potential image, I saw a homeless woman who had just awoken and staggered away (this was in my minds picture). It was the morning after the celebration of the New Year. Maybe some one had had a good time and left their blanket when they woke up. I donnow'.

I think it could have been a more powerful image if I had gotten closer to the ground, as some one had suggested.

The image is what it is and I expect I'll not post to any place else. Having said that, I think your edits make a trivial picture a little better.

Thanks! olc

The idea that triggered your need to photograph this abandoned blanket doesn't come across in this image enough to create similar feelings in the viewers. Sometimes doing that is easier than others. The difference between "somebody left a blanket in the doorway" and "I wonder why that blanket is there" may or may not be possible to create in the viewer's mind with a photograph. Therein lies the challenge of this type of photography.
