A few weeks ago, I posted to a topic here. Everyone who posted before me liked the original post. I did not share that enthusiasm and said so. Later that day, my post disappeared and more positive comments continued from other posters. Furthermore, the post was gone from my profile.
I was chargrined that my post was removed and that it was removed without the moderator advising me. I contacted admin who told me to take it up with the moderator, Bob Yankle. I emailed him my concerns and he read them. However, he never responded to me.
In another post, I left a brief comment. I then emailed the poster with a more complete response that largely agreed with that person's posts. After the original poster posted the private message with some nasty and wrong comments, I emailed Bob asking him to remove the unauthorized posting of the private message. He did not respond or remove it.
I do not know what the official role of the moderator is but Bob's actions in these instances show a lack of courtesy at a minimum. At worst, it shows bad judgment in censoring comments he does not like and tolerating rude behavior.
Based upon his history, I do not expect Bob to respond. I post this as a lesson about what can happen here and I hope it does not happen to anyone else.

All I can tell you is that moderating isn't as easy as one might think. We all post our rules. For example, in the wedding photography section, you are allowed to disagree with people, but if a post turns to personal attacks, those are removed immediately, I also don't ask permission to remove a post that is a personal attack. There is a huge difference between not agreeing, and calling someone a name.
I don't know what you post was about, or how it was worded, but I imagine Bob had reasons, and is doing the best he can.
If more people would act like adults and just discuss the topic or photo, and not resort to just trying to start something, moderators could have it as easy as people think we do.
Remember, moderating the forums is a volunteer position.
ABC1234 - I just had the same experience that you did. My post was angry but no names were called and no profanity (or UHH disguised pro***ity) was included. I felt the original poster was, as he often is, being a 'jerk' (and yes, I cleaned that last word up for purposes of this post). Jerks are jerks, even when they are hide behind the title of Moderator - not much we can do.

I think you are underestimating the problem of moderating. It is probably more like herding cats with all their claws and fangs. I agree with all you say and thank you for doing a thankless job. No doubt Bob had his reasons but we will never know.

Perhaps next time you will cloak your angry with a bit of diplomacy. A moderator doth not make of a jerk into a gentle(add your gender term here).

Like I said, I have absolutely no idea what the thread was about, or what was said. I agree that a response to your questions would be appropriate, but that's just me.

Duly noted.
If the OP has accurately recorded the whole circumstance of his complaint, then it would seem that the Hog, or one of it's officers, has acted outside of their remit.
Therefore a denial or an explanation would be appropriate.

I agree with what you say. There are some comments on UHH that are from time to time unkind. It does help to have a somewhat "thick skin" if you are going to participate. Moderating must be a time consuming volunteer position. I extend my thanks to all the moderators for a wonderful, informative forum.
