Think about it... If you have a camera that will take 100 fps and you are shooting at 1/1000 sec., in one second you have captured 100/1000 of the action in that second and missed the other 90% of the action. Speed is not everything.

Yeah........but 3?
I had a flash the salesman said was good. Guaranteed it for two-and-a-half seconds.
And speed may not be everything but it can make up for a lot. My girlfriend says I may not be very good but I am, at least, quick!

I have a Fuji Finepix S9600. (Looks like an SLR but has a fixed lens, 28 - 300) It will shoot at 3 frames per second. I found out how slow that is when I went out to shoot horses jumping - hunts, Pony Club days etc. Auto focus meant time spent searching each shot so I'd be lucky to get the end of the tail in the first picture.

The REMEDY for that was to change to Manual focus, focus on the jump and wait. That eliminates the focussing time. Then shoot trying to get the timing right. .There is still a delay after the button is pushed and that had to be calculated mentally. That's when I found out how slow "mental" is!

I also found out how fast a horse in mid air is. It can go a long way in a third of a second, specially if I'm looking for the hooves to be just past the jump and still turned under.

My grandfather clock for 50 frames per second!

Thanks Lancer. Some shots worked but a lot of them were just a split second off and that was long enough to make them virtually pointless as photos.
