I use 1/4 to 1/3 cup of sugar in 2 cups of water. I understand they do not recommend honey though.

I found this site about honey and hummingbirds..
I was told that honey has an unlimited shelf life... maybe since it's mixed with water changes that.. I am not a chemist so I really don't know.. I will try it though...

Here is a great recipe for suet.
1 cup Lard
1 cup Cheap peanut butter
1 cup Cheap maple syrup
1 cup generic raisens
3 cups of Cheap rolled oats not quick Oats

Mix suet, maple syrup, and peanut butter together add the rasiens & rolled oats & mix well. the suet can be formed to the shape you want and frozen until needed.

You will draw every kinf of Woodpecker in your area as well as the nuthatch, Black Capped Chickadee, but be aware of the Black birds they will empty the feeder in no time.

If you use sugar and dont boil it for at least 15 min u risk killing your hummer. It can glue their tonguein their mouth, dont take a chance, use the powder stuff made specifically for the birds. Mine lover perky pet the best. Honey the same, younare really taking a chance using it. It is not tneir natural food.
