The town of Cranbury NJ has a history dating back to 1698 The story goes that Alexander Hamilton and the Marquis de Lafayette had headquarters there during the American Revolutionary War, and they were visited by General George Washington on June 26, 1778. As part of orders issued during the Presidency of George Washington, maps of Cranbury were made showing the presence of a church, a mill and 25 other buildings. Needless to say it is old and quaint. As I walked through town this past Thursday I couldn't help but notice all the lovely holiday decorations. And then I noticed at two locations they were being removed. As I got to the second location I couldn't help but ask this lovely women if she would mind me taking a few pictures as she worked. She didn't mind at all and actually willingly posed. I took her card. first would you: stop a stranger at work and ask to photograph...im laughing at myself now for doing it. Second would you: send the original or worked...

Great picture, either would be a nice gift, but I lean toward the one with PP.
I might also bring out the reflection more so she becomes twins.

HA! not sure that would be a good idea since I don't want to bring attention to the wrinkles I left in the reflection...
unless I do that with the original...hmmm maybe ill give it a try.
thanks for the suggestion and comment

No would not ask as it often kills the moment so you get a pose like this rather than a street shot. People actually do not mind having their pictures taken 99.9% of the time. Why you always wear running shoes when you do this is for that odd occasion!!
Let em see the camera but take a picture so quickly they can do nothing but behave naturally. This gal aint bad but still got a smile like a toothpaste advert so looks like a family snapshot. And i stopped sending copies ages ago.

Used to send em via email, got one reply "who are you?" and one a picture of a womans breasts like a phone picture. No message just some knockers. So no idea if it was "a come up and meet me sometime" or whatever. That was the end of me contacting my victims. Now just smile click and walk on by.

Just copied and pasted this from a guy called Graham Smith in the Street Photography forum.
He is the best by far at street on the Hog lookat his portfolio just stunning stuff -

I think you can avoid the posed look by being ready to fire the shutter a split second after they notice you. That way they have no chance to pose and you get one of two reactions, a smile or a look of disapproval. either is, to me, equally good.

Stealth? I carry my camera in my hand, down by my side, with a wrist strap, not around my neck, I will pre-focus and when the moment is right I raise the camera and fire. The deed is done before the subject knows what is happening. Speed is your friend.
EDIT: I will add that I do like eye contact and reaction in my pictures. I see it as two different types reaction and full candid. both work for me.

That's his views and its the only way to do it right

Thanks all for your kind responses
Billy, is that the same graham smith on UHH?
by the way...my lens was a shorty...so kinda hard to get her candid. Besides I thought she was so adorable I didn't mind her direct gaze at all...

Nothing wrong with asking anyone if you can take a picture. They can allways say no. Send her the "kinder" image. Nice shot BTW

I think both methods are in order--shoot some stealth photos and then introduce yourself and ask politely, perhaps offering an identification card. You'll never know what you'll get until you ask. If the answer is "no," you still have the stealth shots.

Graham works most times with a 35mm Zies I believe and I always use a 35mm Nikon now so they do not come a lot shorter than that.

You've removed ALL her wrinkles in edit. I would not have gone that far; there was nothing wrong the way she looked. Just because a woman is no longer 20 yrs. old doesn't mean she should be ashamed about her age and the wrinkles that come with the passing years.
