I'd like to get a new FX Nikon camera. It is just a hobby with me so I take a variety of subjects. This includes architecture, landscapes, flowers, etc. I've had a DX camera(s) for years and would like to upgrade. I can't afford any Nikon top of the line models, but something as their DF or D810 might be nice. My wife has a supply of FX lens which I can share when she's not looking. lol So I'll just be getting a body.
Anyone's input would be appreciated. (Constructive Input)
Thanks for your time. Happy New Year!

For architecture and landscapes I think the D810 is your best choice. And it is also good at everything else.

Do yourself a favor and consider the refurbished program. I use Canon but I do know that the $ can be stretched with refurbished or used. Lots of wholesale value, budget stretching equipment around with any strip.

I've had the D800 for several years now and it is an outstanding camera. I will assume that the 810 somehow manages to improve on it. Using professional lenses, be prepared to be astounded by how sharp your images will be. The only two reservations I have are that if you enjoy post processing you are going to have some really large files to deal with; and the sensor seems to be a dust magnet. No matter how carefully I change lenses the sensor will not be cleansed by the internal mechanism. Acquiring a cleaning kit and learning to use it is not difficult, or expect to need professional service.

You need a Df; black or silver, your choice.

Don't forget the 810's little brother, the D610. If you don't need all the bells & whistles of the 810 or 750, the 610 at 24MP takes some awesome shots and is by NO means a slouch. It'll do everything I ask it to do.
Plus the price is right for a FF camera.

I have the Df and love it but in your case I think the D810 is the better choice. At low ISO which I think most of your pictures will be taken at the D810 would certainly deliver better pictures. I like the controls of the Df but for slow pace shooting it really doesn't matter what type of controls it is. While I can make adjustments much faster with the Df but I think others will think differently but for architecture you wouldn't need to be fast any way.

Unless you are looking to be nostalgic, I would go with the D810. Might as well go for lots of pixels. Just be nice to your wife and she might willingly loan you the lenses.

I would buy a Nikon d800 IF YOU CAN GET A NEW ONE OR THE LATEST 810. MY d800 Serves me well for Landscape, Wild Animals and Nature photography.

Remember, an fx camera requires fx lenses, many of which can be as expensive as some of the fx cameras. A good dx camera with a lens like the 28-300mm (albeit fx lens) can be quite good.

Not only did he say his wife has FX lenses, Nikon FX cameras can use DX lens and will shoot in the DX format. For the D810:

DX-format
(L) 4,800 x 3,200
(M) 3,600 x 2,400
(S) 2,400 x 1,600

That could still give you a 15 MP image.

Kinda defeats the purpose, wouldn't you say? When I said that once you get into the fx format it means you need to get into fx lenses, if you've got an 800 series camera, compatible lenses are, for the most part, somewhat expensive.
