the d7100 will be much cheaper and is a great camera. unless you shoot a lot of action photography and need the larger buffer of the d7200, the d7200 is not significantly greater that the d7100.

I purchased the D7200 before the D500 was announced, but if I had known the D500 would have been available I would have not purchased the D7200. The D500 is $1K more than the D7200, but from specs well worth the extra money in the DX line. While talk is on the D7200 vs. the D7100 there is more minor incremental upgrades to the D7200 to make it worth owning over the D7100. The autofocus is faster on the D7200 as well as better ISO control and if it is important to you Wi-Fi built in, it also has an extended menu with additional minor control features.

They are both great cameras. Compare the features and decide if the extra $$$ is worth it to you.
D500 :-) I bought the D7100 a couple years ago and sent it back..... too spoiled with FF and did not like the noise factor. I may have received a lemon because some people really like them!
