I have been procrastinating about updating to Windows 10, in part hoping to wait until any bugs are removed. I am not looking forward to a prolonged process!
Is it time for me to update...or should I wait a bit more?
If I should go ahead, do you have any advice that will make the process easier?
Thanks for any advice.
I upgraded right away. No issues to speak of. Go for it.

crbuckjr, it's like this.
- Since the release, Yes there have been lots of fixes and updates.
- Drivers are now starting to be available for windows 10 rather then pointing to windows 8.
- The windows 10 upgrade has impressed me how well is done. I've been a user of Windows since 3.11 and in my opinion MS has finally done something completely right this time.
- The upgrade still offer a FULL RESTORE to your previous system if you're not satisfied.
- I've done many upgrades lately and I really cant say I've had problems.
MY ONLY biff with MSW10, is that they dropped the support for Cisco VPN which in my work that is a little important. So if you are not using such thing, then go for it :)
Dont be scared of all the haters and the trolls keep trash talking windows 10. I still stand by my usual acronym : PEBCAK = "Problem Exist Between Chair And Keyboard"

I totally agree and crbuckjr please keep in mind when you see the negative comments on the web. 1, Most of the time when it comes to a product comment people who are happy with the product have better things to do than gripe on the web. A large percent of the dissatisfied will want to vent while a very small percent of the happy users will offer their opinion about the product.
2, The last figure I heard was over 200,000,000 users have upgraded and there has not been a ground swell of discontent reported anywhere.
great...thanks to all for your feedback.....looks like it is time to go forward....thanks again

I updated my 2 Windows 7 computers as soon as Windows 10 came out. They are OK! Not impressed. It does give me some problem that a lot of times it doesn't let me read the file on a hard drive written to it on a Windows XP system.
After the update I bought a new hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 10. I take the old hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7 on it. I also have an old hard drive installed with Windows XP on it. So now if I want to run Windows 10, 7 or XP I just swap the hard drive.

Windows 10 is crap if you like privacy*.
Windows 10 has serious issues with drivers, especially in the networking area.
Windows 10 may have some advantages in loading speed but then again, I am not waiting for the computer to be ready for me since I turn it on and walk away to do something else in the morning.
I am seriously considering going back to Windows 7.
- I need my network to work w/o glitches that needs constant attention
- Privacy issue is a concern but there are ways to deal with this that are not within the constantly reset privacy switches** offered by 'god almighty Microsoft'.

* MS will contact several servers to send information across internet w/o your consent. To block these you need to edit the HOST file or use a firewall that gives you a feedback on what is really going on.
** Every time there is an upgrade some switches are reset to 'on'

I understand you have a need or a love for WinXP still. Otherwise it does not make sense why you complicate things like that. Maybe opening a new thread if you like some help. But I feel you're not looking for help.
My plan is to keep 7 on our three computers as long as possible. I will probably wind up with 10 though when a computer has to get replaced.

Keep procrastinating.
Do you need to upgrade? What is your current operating system? Is it working OK?
Don't trust Microsoft to tell you that your computer is compatible. I did and it cost me two days to get everything back to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my Dell laptop after an unrecoverable crash (blue screen) that MS could not figure out. It turned out that Dell had not finished testing all of their drivers for that laptop with Windows 10 and MS did not know about it.
On the other hand, it was a simple upgrade on my Asus EE netbook running Windows 7 32-bit so that't the only Windows 10 I am running.
My desktop Dell XPS is running fine with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I have no reason to upgrade as long as MS supports Windows 7, which should be for many years.
For me this thread stops here.
I read and read , and I could comment ALL of the aspects.
I just know where this is going.
Crbuckjr: I wish you good luck and hope those comments dont discourage you into trying.
Well I M H O. I have Win7pro64 running on 3 machines and it does so flawlessly. Like Ron said, I start it up in the morning and go do something. When I get back, it's ready to roll. I am curious about Win10 though, but for the most part;
If it isn't broke,..Don't fix it.
I do have a question about Windows 10 upgrade. What happens "down the road" if you need to re-install the operating system? Is it still a free download or do you then have to buy a copy?
