A cold day (23 or 24 degrees) when I saw this Bald Eagle dramatically chewing on a fish he had just caught a few minutes before.
The Eagle was about 100-125 feet away on a sunny day. I used 560mm.

Canon 5Dsr - Canon 100-400 II - Canon 1.4x III - 1/800 - f/14 - ISO @ 1000.

I thank you, cmc65. The lighting and angle plus the detail came together to give me a good capture. I would have liked to have seen more of the fish, but one can not have everything.
Thank you very much, cmc65.

It's the camera and the lens plus the extender that help me get these sharp photos. The sunny day and blue skies also help.
Thank you very much, Dennis.

Exactly. I don't want to piss-off that Eagle and contend with those talons which could do a lot of damage on a human.
Thank you very much, Gary.

Regis, I was just wondering, do they nest in your area?

No, they generally don't. However, I have been told there are some nesting sights, but they are hard to find because of our thick forests. Of course we see many here between December 1-January 15 when they migrate out of Canada to feast on our spawning salmon. The northern Idaho Panhandle is 85% forest, so I am sure there are Bald Eagles out there, but finding them would be a challenge.

Yesterday's newspaper had a picture of one here in my area. A jogger along the Santa Ana river west of my town got a cell phone picture of a Bald Eagle getting a drink and bathing on a sandbar, with a flock of vultures. The photographer has been jogging almost daily along the park trails by the river for 31 years and it is the first Bald Eagle he has seen there.

That shot shows me the power of this animal. The talons look quite nasty. Good work as always Regis.

Some of the more impressive talons I have seen posted here on UHH have been on Osprey.

Remember, Bald Eagle population is increasing all over the United States and every state has some of these birds. The largest amount of Bald Eagles reside in Alaska. Keep watching, Robert.
