My local camera shop just got in a few lens from an auction. The one I am interested in is the Nikon 60mm 2.8D Micro. New in the box still wrapped with manual and warranty card. Is this lens worth their asking price of $299? Will be using it on a Nikon D300 body.

If my camera store had that lens, and I had the $300, and the warranty was a U.S. warranty, I'd go for it.

The only thing, for me, that would probably get me to think twice is if it lacked an f-stop ring and tab to connect to an Photomic meter. But that is just me personally.

Yes, it is definitely a US warranty. The warranty card serial number matches the box and lens. The lens does have an aperture ring but I am unsure of the tab you are referring to .....

Just a suggestion: "Quick Question" isn't a very good title for your post.
It's nearly as bad as "Help".
Maybe something like....I dunno...Nikon 60mm 2.8 D micro price, perhaps?

Looks like a pretty decent deal.
A bit short in my opinion for a full-frame sensor, but would be great on a DX body. Depends on how you will use it.

Excellent as I will be using it on a D300. I figured the price was good as B&H gets $516.99 for this lens. I had the non D version several years back and have always kicked myself for selling it. Was the sharpest lens I have ever used.

I have the 40mm and it has been great. Obviously you know what the lens can do for closeups, because you had one. For the price I would consider buying it quickly as the price is GREAT!. I HAVEN'T CHECKED WITH ANY VENDER THIS WEEK, BUT I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING LENS PRICING FOR SOME TIME NOW AND I DON'T THINK THAT YOU CAN GO WRONG.

The Nikkor 60D has A-F function with your D300, but not VR. This is an excellent closeup lens, and will capture true macro-photographs at 90-mm (3.5-inches) Minimum Working Distance, which makes subject illumination a bit difficult.

There are 2 versions of this lens. The older version and less sharper is the d series. The newer version is the s series and the newer version is improved with better sharpness.

Check Ebay site, you can enter the lens and see what they have been selling for. I still have mine and will not part with it, it is very sharp.

I have one and is used primarily as a lens for copying documents. Sharp, as a tack ... on occasion I have used it as 'standard lens' ... I bought it used a number of years ago ... that is a good price.

Good Luck !

I've got one and would never consider getting rid of it. I had a 50mm f/1.4D that I disliked as I felt it was just too soft for my taste. I use the 60mm as my "normal" lens as I find the difference between f/1.4 and f/ 2.8 to be nothing that I miss.
A great lens at a very good price . . go for it and you'll never be disappointed.

Judging by what they have sold for on ebay, that's a very good price.
