Nikon also has some detailed information about their new products, i.e. D5, D500, SB5000 etc on their website:

The last link isn't what you say.
This might be the eventual replacement for my D800, replacing the D750 on my "next" list...unless they come out with a decent mirrorless by then.
It is interesting that they now have a DX and FX with very similar design at the same price. Hopefully my D800 will last till they drop the price on this or have refurbs available.
I really like the lighted buttons. Button invisibility in the dark was a major reason I dumped my D7000.
Wish they'd made the screen fully articulated. The selfie generation will miss that.

It works fine for me. You get three links for each item.

Your last link is the same as your second. You say it is a camera comparison. It is not.
That works. Thanks!
It clarifies what they are competing with as well. Hopefully that will cause the price on both to drop. I expect the market will treat this as a replacement for the D7200 and expect that price point.
I predict sluggish sales till the price drops. And I expect those sales to mostly rob from D750 sales.

Agreed. I was thinking of making the D750 my next purchase. Since I haven't $6400 to spend on a D5, the D500 may well get the nod.

Here's another link on it:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/8529664044/here-at-last-nikon-announces-d500The table says no built in flash. That might be wrong. I think I see the line and button for it on the photo.
Or maybe not. The button is shown as a bracketing button on another link. Not a big deal for me as I don't do much flash, have an SB700, and would need even less with the ISO capability of this thing.
The comparison table and the text both mention the lack of a built-in flash. Not a biggie for me.

Me either. Interesting, though.
The D500 is not my cup of tea so to speak. The only thing it has over my D7100 that I would really like is the articulating viewer. The D500 has fewer megapixels and sadly lacks the CLS commander mode without an expensive external flash or triggering network. I have 2 SB600s that I use a lot with CLS both on my D80 and D7100. I personally would not purchase a D500. I don't see how the D500 can be classified as a flagship replacement for the D7100/D7200. It just isn't in the running.

For those of us interested in wildlife photography, a few less megapixels don't mean much, compared to the faster Expeed5 processor, bigger buffer and 10 frames a second indefinitely for JPG and maybe for 100 shots in 14bit RAW. The low light performance is better also, it's a newer sensor. I currently have a D7200 and will be watching how this camera tests out when it's released. I understand your need for the CLS commander, it's just not a deal breaker for wildlife where other factors are much more important. I think this body will give the 7D MkII a run for its money.
Pre-ordered mine from B&H yesterday.
Lack of a built-in flash is a deal killer for me. Would including a built-in flash add that much cost or complexity? I can't afford multiple cameras, each for a specialized application, and even if I could afford them, I wouldn't generally carry multiple cameras with me. The D500 sounds great for wildlife and sports, but when shooting wildlife, but I often find other, closer subjects where fill-flash or bounce-flash allows me to take a significantly better image. I might also shoot sports, but then want to take some portrait-type photos of the athletes, and again, fill-flash or the ability to use the on-camera flash in the commander mode may be needed, and I don't want to necessarily carry a bunch of additional gear. The D810 is great for landscapes and portraits, resolution is probably excessive for sports, and the frame rate a little low, but it does have the built-in flash. Looks like I'll have to decide between the D810, D750, and D7200. The D750 looks like the leader so far. Anyone else feel this way regarding the built-in flash capability?
