Day 3: Beginner's Mind - Learning to see Red / Yellow Tulip

Each day I try to go out for about an hour. I visit the same place on different days at different hours and conditions and I make it a point to re-visit spaces/flowers each time.

Nothing stays the same - us and the flowers and of course the light is always changing. Re-visiting subject previously photographed is an excellent way to learn to see these subtle changes - in self and other.

Many years ago I had the good fortune to work with Lois Greenfield who is a quite famous dance photographer. Lois does not photograph anything but dance. For quite some time I judged her for this but then I began to see the wisdom and the luxury of being able to concentrate on only one thing....learning to see it exquisitely....

Funny thing it seems the more one learns to see one thing really well one starts to see all things with more clarity too.

The first image required more than normal processing in photoshop to bring out my vision.

The second was unique in that while composing it there was a blade of grass threatening to poke up my nose - my cheek on the ground.

When's the last time you went out and put your nose to the earth?

I love those...and your statement. If I had my nose to the earth I'm not sure I'd ever get back up...at least alone...without my butt coming up first and flashing the world!!! LOL
This is really a very, very good idea! Thanks for sharing!!!

 well I make it a practice to get up slowly too - and when it's time to get out the tripod you can bet I use it as a crutch for me and the camera too......and thats part of the grace of aging - we have less time to live so we tend to live more in the moment......

get out and smell the earth - it is Earth Day!

Nice pictures. I particularly like the second one with that style you use so well! Loved your writing and I like the way you think! I also try to get out each day to do some poking around with the camera. As to your question, I was rolling around on the ground a couple of days ago when I captured the Cope's Gray Treefrog. I smelled the earth and like you, I used the tripod to help me get upright again. It's such a wonderful world to explore.

I revisit your posts like you revisit your flowers. You inspire me. I'm taking Christopher out with a bag and teaching him to clean his world today. The best thing is, he's excited! Jen
