Canon wants $180.00 while B&H and Adorama wants $119.00 but which to buy from, B&H or Adorama? Can anyone help as to which is best, other than Canon?

B&H or Adorama is a toss up. Both are top retailers with good reputations.

I usually buy from B&H mostly because I shopped in their store when I lived in NY.

Thanks. I was leaning that way but would like to hear from others. I suddenly find myself in need of a AC adapter for my Canon 60D.

If you want Canon brand, the B&H, Adorama, Amazon others will be less expensive.

You could also try this: http://www.amazon.com/ACK-E6-Adapter-Supply-Digital-Cameras/dp/B007FMG6D6

A fraction of the price. I have a similar one for my T3i. Works perfectly. For most things I buy Canon brand, but something like this, it's not usually a big deal.

Good luck

My observation is that the manufacturer almost always charges more than a retailer. They don't want to compete with the businesses which sell the bulk of their production.

$180.00 from Canon while I can but for $119.00? Makes you wonder, what's the point? Thanks for your reply.

Just the regular rules of commerce. Manufacturers often charge a premium price, retailers do what they can to compete for business, and third party manufacturers undercut the original manufacturers by a significant margin, but also sometimes on quality.

As an example, I was happy to pay for a Canon brand battery grip which is constantly on my camera. Part of the core system. For the AC adapter which is simple tech and used infrequently I was happy to buy on 'non-brand' version on Amazon for 10% of the cost of the Canon one. I have perceived no problems.

I buy genuine canon inks and photopaper, but cheap paper for my laser printer, and cheaper toner for my old backup laser printer which HP dropped support for many years ago.

Don't know if that helps, but it seems to be the way of the world.

Good luck.

Thanks for clearing that up. I went with B&H this morning. As much as I hated to part with the $119. it was a lot better than putting out $180. to Canon.

I want to do some video with my camera and a battery won't do it for extend length of time. Other wise I wouldn't need the adapter.

I put a 64G micro SD card into my Canon 60D and to my surprise it took it. 2009 high standard large RAW pictures. Should be enough for video but I am concerned about write speed to the card.

The AC adapter will be useful for video. The 64GB card should hold plenty of video, but files are typically limited to 4GB per segment, which is around 11 or 12 minutes for 1080p video. You just need to restart if needed and think about multiple files not a continuous segment.

Good luck.

As far as pictures go, anything over 999 files, a new folder will be added on the card. You gave me something to thing about with video. I will have to play with it to see what happens. Thanks again for your advice.

If you are serious about video, do you have, or have you considered an external mic? They make a huge difference. Rode, Shure, and other brands offer good devices.

I will be 'filming' from the sound room at my church. I was wondering if there was a way to connect to the sound mixer from the external mic connector on the camera. A mini jack to RCA jack maybe? But will it work?

It should be OK with the correct cables and possibly a few tweaks. There are plenty of videos on Youtube that may help. Also, there is some unofficial software called Magic Lantern that is worth considering. It adds a lot of functionality for video. I use it on a T3i and a T2i, and it seems very useful and stable.

It seems that a conversion from 'line out' signal levels to 'mic' signal levels may be required, so a little research may be required, but there do seem to be viable approaches. I have not tried this myself, just the use of an external mic.

Others may be able to help, perhaps Jimmya.

Good luck.

Thanks Peterff. I will be looking into this farther.

I ordered the adapter kit this morning - it will be here on Thursday the 7th. Not bad for delivery.
