My wife gets wonderful results with the "iA" mode most of the time. How were you setting it up?

Shot on aperture and shutter priority, mostly. A few on sports and a few on iA just to see how it turned out. All were extremely noisy and grainy.

I set it up last night using suggested settings by Graham Houghton and birders on dpreview.com, in the panasonic forum. I probably missed something. So will recheck the settings with those that were recommended. However, it was heavy overcast, so not a lot of light. Hoping it will be better tomorrow.

I shot the same birds using both the p610 and the fz200. I have been only shooting with the P610 for about a week. So really trying to determine which camera will be best for me. The Nikon also had a few that were a little noisy and not quite in focus. However, there were quite a few that were acceptable and a couple that I thought were pretty good. I shoot mostly birds and other wildlife, close ups of insects and butterflies, beach scenes, and flowers. I seldom shoot people except at family gatherings.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my inquiry. I read everyone's input. It has been very helpful. The FZ200 can be picked up for around 250.00 and it seems to have much of what my DIL asked for. I'm quite sure she will keep it on auto or picture effects. It will certainly do more than her phone camera. It's always nice to get the personal, hands on perspective.

So glad to hear it. I was concerned that I had inadvertently hijacked your thread. Did not intend to do that. I am sure your daughter in law will enjoy it. For sure it is much better than a phone. And the price can't be beat.

I am buying camera for my DIL. Trying to find something with zoom and wifi for under 300.00 or even less. I have read the reviews on many many many point and shoots but still not sure. However the FZ 200 might fit the bill. She has a good eye but not technical, will be using it for her kids activities, family outings and animals. She asked for zoom and high pixels (this does not have high pixels) and
wifi. Anyone have this camera- any other opinions on other cameras? Thanks.

I love my Lumix FZ200 and it goes everywhere with me. What a relief after carrying A D700 with the trilogy lenses.

I have taken the liberty of forwarding the attached recent capture.

If I am not mistaken, the FZ200 Does not have WiFi, although the 2.8 total zoom lens is very nice for getting great pictures. Check out the newest model, it has the WiFi, but more $$$

I have 3 Panasonic Lumix cameras FZ-100 FZ-200 & FZ-1000 I don't think you can find a better camera for the money .great pictures as well as great video the Fz-200 has a 2.8 lens throughout the 24 x zoom range . great for shooting in poor light.

$250 !! That is a great deal! I bought mine in October for $315 and I LOVE IT !! I'm the person that drags my DSLR everywhere, but I was intrigued by this camera because of the lens. So I bought one just to play with -- and it has kinda turned into my "go to" camera.

It is light, but big enough to have a great feel, it takes amazing pictures even zoomed all the way out. The zoom is just the right length - you can still hold it and take perfect pictures zoomed all the way out.
It does as well (if not better) in low light, than my RX100 IV, & MUCH better than my 7D
It also has the flip up LCD for selfies, and the viewfinder.
It is pretty fast for a P&S - I think with some practice I could do get some good sports pics with it.
I hear it does great video too - but I have not tried that yet.

And - there is a guy on YouTube named Graham Houghton that has done the best instructional videos for this camera. He is organized and easy to listen to.

I would recommend this camera to anyone!!

I recently bought one for less than $250 and couldn't be happier with it. Great video with excellent image stabilization. I think that in some of the places I go from here on I'll be leaving my Nikon DSLR and multiple lenses in the trunk.

In those low-light situations that have been mentioned, the FZ-200 has an answer.

On the function dial, find "C1" and "C2" settings. Using one of those will enable you to shoot sharp hand-held low light shots, even night time shots. I usually use C1. Try them. You'll be impressed. Otherwise, as others have noted, the FZ-200 can get noisy in low light.

It's a nice, light and capable camera.

The zoom is quite impressive and fast, as is the focus.

The little camera shoots outstanding video.

I have had this camera for two years and am very pleased with the photo's it takes. i belong to a camera club in my community and those with full frame cameras are surprised with the quality from this camera. I have shot my grandson playing soccer from 50 yards away with the zoom and he fills the frame. Use it often for close ups as I take pictures of flowers, bugs etc. Have taken pictures at school plays and have not had to use a flash. The 2.8 through the entire zoom is great. I paid close to $500 when it first came out from B&H so the price you can get it for now is a good one. I have taken photo's at the zoo of a giraffe quite a distance away. Cropped the shot and the IQ was very good. Could pick out each hair on the neck. This was enlarged to 13x19" and is in my den.
There a great you tube videos on this camera to help her learn. (Graham Houghton) I did purchase a Metz 44 AF-1 TTL flash when one is needed.
Good luck on your search for the right camera as this has worked out well for me.

I would also recommend one in a heartbeat.
They are available from B&H at around $250, new and "in the box" - I just got my second one....first had a traumatic fall, would have cost almost as much to have it repaired..

Personally I can't praise the FZ200 enough. The only caveat is all those inconveniently placed buttons..
