Quite often on UHH people have asked what software is available for editing and sometimes the answer is Gimp. Gimp is opensource software that runs on Linux, Windows and Mac. I did this project on Linux and although I have used Gimp for a few simple tasks, I am not very proficient with it.
THE STORY:
We have some friends who live in a fairly rural area here in Northern Michigan. They have a double-wide trailer but they are gone about 9 months of the year travelling in their RV
There has been a large Dept. store built about a 1/2 mile from their home and it opened while they were gone. As part of the new facility, about 3 "round-abouts" (Rotaries to you Easterners) added on the surrounding roads, which is something we don't see much of in this area. I doubt if these friends know of or have seen the Round-Abouts since they left about 4 months ago.
I thought it would be fun to send them a picture of how things have changed 'back home' so I used Gimp (on Linux) to take 3 photos and merge them into one. A picture of their house, a picture of a round-about, and a picture of the sign showing the round-about.
I am NOT very experienced with Gimp, nor PhotoShop and have never done such a merge other than adding text to a Christmas card. The result took me about 2 hours, most of which was learning the ropes of masking, etc. I thought it turned out quite well but am aware than it is not a professional job. Good enough for the purpose.

I hope you are prepared for their therapy if they see this, and start worrying about their home.
Actually a very nice, convincing composite.
Very funny! My kind of trick but I am not proficient with post processing.
What a hoot! I'm sure they'll be on the phone real quick after seeing this! Ha!
I was wondering why you were going on about your friends and their neighborhood. Sure glad you did, or the image would make no sense.
Well done! :)

you rock!! that's funny!!!
You did a great job .... but wow ... I hope you are sending them a follow up letter, or they may cut their travels short to raise heck with city officials... hahaha Very well done!

I'm not worried about that... The guy is one of the most low-key and humorous types I've ever met. A free spirit who once walked from the Mexico border all the way to Canada...
I'm more worried about what kind of 'payback' he is 'ginning up' as I type.
And they do get emails as they travel... so I am expecting a 'bomb email' to arrive any minute.

You did a great job on your pp, and love what your doing. If I was your friend pay back would be hell.
I hope you have great life insurance. Or, they know you well enough to expect this kind of trickery. What a job you did creating this joke.

This guy is capable of far more treachery than that picture... Plus he has a LOT of local friends I am sure he can call on to repay the "deal".
Will post when it happens... 👹👹
This is a great effort using Gimp. I hope they can round out their tax bill when they get back!!! :-D
In jersey and PA, we call them circles! Good work!!!
