I have heard pros and cons on dye inks versus pigment and was just curious about the fading with dye versus pigment I would think that both would fade in sunlight due to UV rays maybe one quicker that the other also have heard laminating a dye photo with UV laminate protects them any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated due to the fact that I purchased a Pro 100 printer over the Pro 10.

Do a google search with "dye vs pigment" and then make up your own mind.

The key to an answer might be how old you are! Second might be if you think anyone wants to look at your photos after you're gone!

What are your expectations? How long do you expect to be looking at a print?

Papers also make a big difference, and you always need to match the papers substrate to the type of ink your printer uses. Many printer manufacturers claim long life for their dye inks, but look at the SPECIFIC conditions they say must be met to achieve that long life. (Store your pics in a hermetically sealed closet with no light and take them out once every 6 months for a 10 minute display and they will last for 100 years! Well, maybe not exactly THAT bad, but very close.)
For true print longevity always print with pigment based inks on archival paper and display out of direct sunlight.

If you are not selling your work, you probably have no use for pigment.
If you ARE selling your work, you owe it to your customers to use pigment!! You should be delivering the best archival product that you can! ;-)

Red River hasn't added the P400 yet. The OP started this topic and included the Pro-100 vs the Pro-10 due to ink differences. Both are 13" printers and the P400 is a 13" printer using pigment ink.

My search was for what Canon says (or brags about) in their marketing and promotion about the advantages of pigment ink. In the link I put above, Canon writes "Up to 300-year album life is achieved with the combination of Genuine Canon [ChromLife100+] dye inks and Photo Paper Plus Glossy II PP-201.....(When properly stored in an archival-quality album with plastic cover sheet and kept in the dark)"

How long does Canon promise a pigment ink print will last?

Canon tries hard not to make claims about their pigment (Lucia) inks because if they say those inks don't last longer than, or as long as, their dye inks, the arguments will be flying. What any manufacturer states about their products always needs to be taken with a grain of salt as the truth is often way over-stretched. Third party evaluations are usually much more accurate, and independent lab tests are always the best source for real, accurate info.
