I recently advised a UHH poster not to use AVG anti virus software, my information about AVG was obtained from the UK computer publication "Computer Active".
This magazine which has been going for almost 20 years and can be relied on accurate and unbiased advice.
Despite this source of my advice I was accused of continuing to spread a rumour about AVG.
Today however BBC news have published an article concerning AVG software you can read it here:

A long time ago (80s) I used AVG Antivirus with great success. then I upgraded to something else. A couple of months ago I decided to give my old friend another shot. What a mistake. I had pop ups all over the place, unwanted messages, warnings that I had a virus and had to jump through several hoops etc, etc. When I tried to get rid of it, I was unable to. I took my machine to my techy and he tried all his magic and finally resorted to wiping the disc absolutely clean so there was nothing at all left and then rebuilding it.
AVG, thanks but not thanks; it's not what it used to be.

But just like any other software vendor, they had a security flaw, it was identified, and they resolved the issue.
why is that news and why does it make AVG something to avoid?
If that's the standard, then any MS OS or even Mac OS shouldn't be used...they've both been in that situation numerous times.
I wasn't aware they had resolved the problem. I read on the internet, The Information God, that they had been bought out by a foreign company who had installed a virus in the program so they could gain access to personal information. I was satisfied at the time with the other program and just never went back.
