Very limited DOF @ f/4, the trade offs were at there limits for me.
Shot on a tripod with a cable release.

The cheeks are full! My dog is fascinated by one that hangs out on the other side of the glass patio door.

With that addition, nice photo! Was it perhaps Nikon's newest 300/4 PF? (Have it, Love it!)

Yes, I love this lens, the size, weight and image quality. Turned off the vr on this shot, maybe should have left it on despite the tripod.

That is a beautifully composed image, par4fore. Really love the detail captured with that lens. Super shot.

It still is effective. Neat photo.

Using VR on a tripod could actually introduce some shake - instead, up your shutter speed - 1/100 isn't enough for these always moving critters.
Nice shot!

No problem, and good shot!
I applaud your photo, excellent! Amazing portrait, such fine detail rarely seen. Any post?
Did you prefix the focus or does you remote have two steps, focus then shoot?
I really see no meaningful DOF problem, you have three points that count in focus Paws and face.. the rest of the fur is so-what background and if in sharp focus would detract from the main 3.
A negative comment: The fact that you had to use a remote suggests a lack of trust between you and your model.
Feeding peanuts builds rapport, however they are far sighted. Consider that fingers and peanuts look alike and those teeth are made for cracking nuts and go thru fingers easily ... you would be a nut to trust these tooth-claw-armed beasts.

It looks to me that your choice of settings were spot on. Your outcome was a wonderful photo.
