The HP Officejet Pro 8610 is on sale at Adorama for $50. How does this printer do with photos? Anyone used it?
This is a typical four cartridge color printer (magenta, yellow, cyan, & black). MOST image will be okay, but some skin tones and other more subtle colors will be reproduced best with an eight cartridge printer. I own an HP 8630 for document and product label printing for business, and a Canon Pro-100 for digital photo printing.

I have the 8620, one step up from the 8610. Not bad with photos, but the ink is very expensive. I also have a Canon Pixma MX922, seems it does a better job with photos. As far as your question, once again it is not bad with photos..........Mike

In general, 3 ink (plus black) printers do not do a very good job with photos as they are just not geared for that work. They are meant for business uses for color with perhaps small photos. Photo work requires a printer designed for the task. IMHO. Best of luck. Happy Holidays!
