Where are the pictures coming from?
Have you completed the drop down menus on the bottom left. The 'import all' button will be greyed until you do

SD memory cards. In the upper left hand corner, import does not load.Click on the box, ( import from ) it says none. I tried other cards but none of them will load. Thank you for any help. Tony
You can also use Windows to import your photos. Go to control panel and change the preference for default. Once Windows opens Photo Gallery (called just Photos on 8) and imports the images, then open Picasa, go to File - add folder to Picasa, and have it scan that folder.

Are you telling us that you insert the SD card in your PC and the computer doesn't recognize the card? That is exactly what I do, I have a PC with Windows 10. As soon as the SD card is inserted, I get a window asking what I want to do with the card. One of the suggestions is to allow Picasa to copy the images into the PC.
If you google Picasa Help you will get lots of information from Google, Picasa is a Google product. Good luck.
If your camera came with a cord that has one end plug into the camera and the other to the PC's USB port, try using that.
Download all photos into a general photo file and import the ones you want into Picasa with the import function. You probably don't want them all in Picasa anyway.
It's amazing how many people think Picasa stores photos.
It is ONLY a programme to view, edit pics.
Photos are stored in your PC under eg My Pictures. To use Picasa, one opens a pic with Picasa, do your editing then save, save as, or not, back to where they came from. Eg My Pictures.
Picasa doesn't store them. It keeps thumbnails.
I copy & paste my pics from SD card into My Pics, either all or those I want.
From there, I use Picasa as my default photo viewer. Click on a photo to open it in Picasa, work my magic, then save. It automatically saves the edit in My Pics. Or save as for a copy of edit, where you want to put it.

As I mentioned else where, Picasa is only for viewing or editing pics.
You must know how to download pics into your PC???
From SD card, down load all or individual pics into your picture folder/s.
If your default picture viewer programme is Picasa, a click or double, will open that pic in Picasa. You an advance through your folder then.
If you want to edit a photo, click on 'edit in Picasa' at bottom of window.
When you have made your changes, you can 'save as', which gives you a copy of the edited pic, & also keep the original, or 'Save' to change the original to the edit version.
Picasa is NOT for storing pics.
Hope this is clear enough for you.

I use Picasa to edit and email photos via Googles gmail. I store the photos I want to keep onm a portable hard drive Thank all of you for your help. HAPPY NEW YEAR to all..
Picasa has been having problems lately. Your Photos are fine...they are on your computer. Something has made Picasa crash. I've had it since 2000 and never had a problem, yesterday...'wiped out'. Uninstalled-reinstalled all is working so far. You Pictures that were formerly there, will NOT be there, however, they ARE on your computer. Mine are in my Library. Just have to start over or do something with the Data Base, which takes a while. I have been on the Picasa site and this seems to be happening...still a good 'free' program!
