My wife has won a trip China from her company. Not sure yet when, and where she is going. She will be traveling with other mangers. I am not going.
She is not too technically oriented. I would not even try to teach her to use my gear, plus I wouldn't trust her taking them overseas.
She suggests just using her camera phone. But what would be a good point and shoot, with a decent mp? I have an Olympus something or other 7 mp, many years old that is easy. But I would like to have her use something a little better.
Suggestions appreciated, and price it below $200. Thanks
Any point and shoot will work according to your description but quite honestly I would first ask your wife...
IMO- Make sure, whatever you get, you show her how to shoot in AUTO and how to turn the flash off and how to turn the flash on.
Turn the flash off:
I have been on trips and seen people shooting through bus window with the flash firing into the window, I've also seen flash fired to shoot the stars at night and in the middle of the day into middle of the grand canyon also in art museums into glass frames.
Turn the flash on:
Use it in indoors at night
Turn on Fill Flash:
with the beach or snow in the background or near any bright window.
IMO make her an expert at knowing this and she will have a better trip with whatever camera you buy.
I would have her go to a local camera shop. Have them show her a Nikon or Panasonic camera point and shoot camera. The criteria she should use how it feels in her hands and ease to the buttons she needs to use.

I would never have thought of that one (flash). Good call.
Anything from Best Buy should be easy enough to use.
Canon s120 can sometimes be found for under $200. It's also nice and small... But she'll need extra batteries.
Canon has the SX 50 in the refurb store for 149.99.
No lenses to change. Set it for A or better yet P and remind her to keep the battery charged (better yet get an extra and keep both charged, she will need an adapter for the electric power there.) and have plenty of memory cards.
It is simple to use and very good quality. My wife has one and does very well with it. She can operate the electronics in an operating room just fine but outside the hospital, well, not so much.
If she has a phone that takes good quality images that should do the job.
The problem with most phone cameras is they don't have a dedicated shutter button and you need to touch the screen, although on some phones you can dedicate the volume button to take a photograph.
Phone cameras can also be difficult to view in bright light.
A good point and shoot in many ways would be a better choice but then you have to consider batteries, charger and leads etc.

I would go for the refurbished Canon SX50.
The Sony rx100 MK3 or the 4 is an amazing choice. Read any review and many are trying hard to copy but have only come close. One reason is the zeiss lens. As far as giving up the zoom. Sony has a clear image zoom which is far superior to digital zoom and takes you from 3.7 to 7x which should cover you. It also has digital which takes you to 11x but I turn it off and never use it. You can also turn off clear image zoom. I put it in my jean pocket. I use the Alex White has a great book on the camera so you can learn how to maximize the abundant features. I would suggest 3 accessories. Mega gear uv lens protector. Invisable. Richard franiec grip. Sony semi hard screen protector. You will be amazed at the quality of the images. You can still get the M2 for a great discount.

The OP was looking for something less than $200. Tell me where you can get a Sony RX100 Mk 2 for less than $200.
