Good Morning: I have three things I would like your assistance on please.
1. I saw a tutorial on a lens filter of sorts. It seemed like it had a mesh filter, white, and its purpose was to beable to take photos during the daylight, but this filter made it look like night. Does anyone have an idea of what I am talking about? I can no longer find that clip. If so, could you give me a name for it?

2. Because I have shaky hands I must now use a tripod when I shoot, don't like it but love to take photographs because it gives me such peace. I noted that there are straps I think Cotton..??. creates them and also you can mount a tripod type thing to the belts for your camera. Has anyone ever tried using them and how do you like them? (It has several things you can do with the camera)

3. I noted that Karl Taylor an English photographer, talks about a neoprene neck strap. Has anyone used one or knows where in the states one could find one?

In advance thank you for your input and suggestions I truly enjoy this forum....

The only one I'll hazard an answer to is the last one. I believe it's an OpTech strap. I use one and really like it.

I have a neoprene neck strap on my film camera. I got it from Ritz Camera; the brand is Quantaray, which is the Ritz Camera "house brand", I think. It is comfortable and has a quick release connector on each end. I don't remember what it cost - probably around $25.00.

Hi
#1 might be an ND filter, but I am not sure what you are going for. It will make your pictures darker.
#2 They do make a rope or string that hooks to the tripod mount and hangs down so you can step on it. When pulled tight it does help steady the camera. Have you tried a monopod?
#3 Others have answered this. I also have one and they are great.

There were "white" ND filters in the 60's that were used for movie cameras, supposed to make day look more like night, I personally never thought they worked that well as the shadows were always still way too prevalent. They were made from a piece of white silk sandwiched between two pieces of flat optical glass.

Cotton Carrier is what you are looking at. I bought one once and used it with a 400mm F5.6 lens, but as I was using it I noticed I could see my heartbeating in the lens and had to time my shutter releases between heartbeats. I got rid of it.

The straps you want are made in Belgrade, Montana by a company called OpTech USA, here is their webpage:

Regarding number 2. I made my own. I took a screw that fit in the hole on the bottom of my camera, (where the tripod attaches), then took a piece of string, tied it to a large metal washer. You make the string the length from the bottom of the camera (in shooting position) to the floor. You step on the washer and pull up on the camera to steady it.

I think it took longer to type out my crappy directions than it would to make one. Sorry!

Quantaray is not Ritz house brand. It is a brand that Sigma uses for items that they do not want to put the Sigma name on.

Quantaray is a brokering company that makes nothing. They farm out contract work to whoever will build their product design the cheapest. Sigma does NOT make their lenses unless they happen to be the cheapest bid on that particular lens model. Sigma has made lenses for them in the past, as has Tamron, Bower, Samyang and many others. Quantaray does not retail direct, but wholesales to many retailers with Ritz being the primary one to carry their products. You can never expect to get good quality products from this type of marketing, lenses, filters or anything else.

Actually, Quantaray IS the Ritz 'house brand'-they use it on more products than lenses. They just happen to buy the lenses that they label Quantaray from Sigma. If you wanted to have line of lenses called 'ChapJohn' you could go to Sigma, or Tamron and negotiate that deal. Your cost per lens would depend on the level of Quality Control that you desire-inspect every other lens=one price. Inspect every 10th lens=lover price!

Which cotton carrier were you using? If it was the chest mounted one, most likely you would be able to see your heart beat. I use the waist belt with holsters, one for the big mamma and the other for the camera.
