We bought tickets on 12/21 for an early Christmas Day 3D showing. Was hoping to beat some of the crowds with the 1pm showing but it was not the case. We had heavy snow from Christmas Eve til about noon Christmas. Streets were a mess and the theater was still packed. Guess the old saw "give them what they want and the people will come" still applies.
We saw the original Star Wars and haven't seen any of the sequels...wanted to see if all the pre-hype was warranted. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the spectacle of the original movie, this one...meh. Plenty of visual action and NOISE! But who am I...it is breaking all time attendance and dollar records.
Guess I'm too old for space westerns...give me John Wayne.
I thought it was as good as A New Hope and definitely better than episodes 1-3 but not as good as Empire.
i'll wait till it on tv.
It reminded me a lot of the first movie, but that was okay, I enjoyed it. I just didn't like one part of the ending.
I wasn't impressed much.
I have all the others on VHS, DVD or both.
I have read a lot of books in the Star Wars Universe over the years, but none in the last 2 or so.
They rehashed just about every great scene and a lot of not so great ones from the other movies, often to the point it was like they just used an alternate take that was edited out of the other movie.
They also totally hashed up the story line and characters as developed in the books. In some cases doing the complete opposite of the book story lines. In others inventing things that aren't in the books and clash with the book story lines.
So, it was OK, but not great. It will still make a lot of money because of the hype, Disney's reputation and the shear size of the Star Wars fan base who will go to see it "just because".

tv reported couple years ago of bed bugs in theatres. i'll pass lol
I'll see Star Wars tomorrow, but really want to see the new Avatar, release next Xmas.
Love Star Wars. I have all them on DVD or Blue Ray.
Went to see the latest in 3D and to tell you the truth, I was disappointed.
It was just about entirely ACTION and no story line to speak of, just one battle after the other.
Sure left the door open for another sequel #8.

Sarge your take on this episode is the same as mine. I heard JJ Abrams say that he has read the script for #8 and it is "great". However, he is not going to direct #8...go figure. :(

8 and 9 are already planned. If they do well, there's talk of 10-12.

Then they will get farther and farther from the story line in the authorized books and end up sharing only the "Star Wars...".

Yeah, I thought there were only 9 original volumes total?

it is believed it started from british comic books in 1971.
Long ago, I don't remember where, I read something that it is all based on a story line Lucas started in high school, in 12 episodes.
Don't know, never met him (that I know of) even though I went to the same high school in Modesto the year he was a senior, I was 11th grade and hung out with the campus nerds. My step sister was in the 12th grade and may have known him.
