Does anyone use Wacom tablets to do photo editing, and if so what are your thoughts . From what I see you can do very fine editing over using a mouse which at time is challenging, and can you keep both the mouse and the tablet combined and use both.

If you use the Search function at the top of the page and type in Wacom you will find a large number of threads on this subject.

I have a tablet connected to an iMAC. Awesome device, much more detailed than a mouse. I can use a mouse or the tablet, but I choose to use the tablet when accessing post processing and use the mouse for other programs.

For fine photo editing, you can't beat a Wacom

Even with the Wacom Intous small, I only map half of the tablet surface for my two monitors.

I use a Wacom table to do photo editing that can't be done using a mouse. I use it mostly to "cut out" items in a photo that I don't want in the background.

Lynda.com has good video(s) on the Wacom. You can get a week or so from free to see if you like the site. It costs just $25/month after that. I generally sign up for a month and watch all I can and then take a break for a while.

I've been using one for about four years, and yes I find I can do more precise editing with it than I can do with a mouse. Yes, you can use both a tablet and a mouse at the same time; no additional actions (buttons to click, toggles to throw, etc) needed to switch back and forth. At this point, I couldn't live without mine.

In answer to your second question, yes, I do leave a mouse and tablet plugged in at the same time with ho problems.... mostly because I'm too lazy to crawl behind the computer desk to unplug the mouse. It takes a bit of time to get used to a tablet, don't give up. Eventually, like most people, you'll probably just use the tablet as a mouse, and the mouse will just sit there doing nothing.
