It takes Nikon software to reset the count and this is available only to Nikon authorized shops. As long as the shop is licensed to use this software, there's no problem. I have heard of them cutting ties with shops that share this information.

Hi all, recently my Nikon D610 developed a focusing problem. Randomly it would just refuse to focus.
I sent back under warranty, but not to Nikon. They informed me that the prism box, (?), was kaput and they needed to order on from Japan.
This they did and the focusing is back to normal.

One strange thing has happened that I only noticed today!
When I sent in the camera there were over 8000 actuations recorded. Today I notice the last shot I took was 465!
As near as I can tell the actuation record was about 200 when I got back the camera. I would have thought that resetting in this area would not be possible, from a legal point at least.

Is this a normal thing when you have a new prism box fitted?

I await you expert opinions with interest.

Thank you.

Jimbo :)

Yes Jerry, when ever I trade mine in I always reset the odometer - I seem to get really really good deals ;)

That works best for a private sale. Don't let them close to the car and don't start it. Complete the deal far from your house. Accept only cash.
