Yes. You get what you pay for, especially when dealing with overseas products

I purchased one of those from my local camera store. Paid for it. Walked out with it.

What kind of camera do you have? Do you really want to trust your expensive camera to a $5.00 camera strap made in China?

Shipments from mainland China can take up to 6 weeks but 2 months is unusual. Process an order cancellation through Amazon and request a refund and then buy something that is sold by a U.S. based merchant affiliated with Amazon or any of the more reputable sellers often mentioned on UHH.

I ordered one from the States, a few dollars more, but got it in just a few days. If I do order shipped from China I forget that I ordered by the time I get it and have purchased it here.

I have ordered protective optical glass covers for my LCD's on Nikon D800, D700 and Fuji X-T1. They were listed on eBay and came in about ten days. They are very high quality. So not everything out of China is crap. For example, think iPhone.

I have bought things directly from China and can offer up a few suggestions. I much prefer dealing direct with sellers, which means buying through ebay. I do buy a lot through Amazon but if it involves a direct import from China I ALWAYS stop and find the same item through ebay where I can select my own seller and I will know when they actually ship and get a tracking number. Yes, you can do this even with small items that have free or $1-$3 shipping.

Buying from sellers in China, EBAY is the most direct route. When you track you can see where delays and snags take place. Most of the time the delays are RIGHT HERE IN THE US at the port of entry. I've found good experienced Chinese sellers work just as hard to give good service as anywhere else in the world and that's why I prefer to deal direct with them thru ebay rather then someone "brokering a cut" as a "go between".

Most of the time, "small packet" shipping from China takes about 2-3 weeks and it might surprise you to learn the same package often only takes 2-3 days to reach the US where it will sit for several days to a couple of weeks before going into the USPS system.

If you want or need it faster, the same stuff is usually imported by sellers here and can often be found sold domestically with a markup price.

Better safe than sorry, if and when you receive the strap it won't last and/or fail. Think the people in China will back their product, I don't think so. Save on a strap and pay more for repairs and/or a new camera!

Penny wise, pound foolish....

I order lots of electronics and photography equipment from China and like others have noted, if you use eBay you're dealing directly with the seller. By and large most of what I purchase arrives within 14 days unless I upgrade shipping in which case it is possible to see stuff in a few days.

I would also agree that most of the goods I purchase are not "Chinky junk". Fact is these goods are, nine times out of ten, the same stuff being sold by brick and mortar stores in the US at many times the price. Much of the accessory Nikon stuff I purchase is produced for Nikon. The only difference is the label.

It is a sad state of affairs that most consumer goods are produced in China. The US has abandoned production of the majority of consumer goods because it can be produced for a fraction of the cost in China. I'd honestly like to see that situation turned around. Many say well, "just buy American". For the most part that is no longer an option. We have crossed that bridge and the all wonderful and wise marketplace has decided the issue for us. The choice is a false one and I'd rather not pay B&H or Adorama or Amazon twice as much for the same thing I can buy off eBay directly from the manufacturer.

I agree. It would be better to pay 10 times as much for the same exact strap!!!
