Rich, egotistical people that aren't cheap.

Most of my paid work comes from graduatioin pictures and events, such as parties. There are far fewer wedding gigs, but one or two of them easily make more money than several of the other kind.

Weddings will keep you in "toys" but they are hard to come by. Competion is getting crazy, but I also do tons of baby shots, not as much money, but people are always wanting pictures of their babies. Hospitals are usually locked up tight by somebody, but if you persist, eventually getting your foot in the door there, you can make tons on "baby's first photo's", plus, you get the benefit of giving your cards out for follow up. Funny, but I think 2 of my weddings last year, were from people who I had taken Baby's first photo in the hospital. I'm old, to me, it is a sad commentary on society, but it made me money

The odds of making money in photography are not very good for most people. They do it as a fun hobby. Some times its like boats. People say its a deep hole you throw money into. I make a litte money at it selling cards and bird photo's. It keeps my interest up but does not really cover cost.

It is not glamorous or very creative, but I have a consistent income from auction houses, who want photos of merchandise for upcoming auctions put on line. I charge by the auction. (apx 300 pictures for each) This includes my time, the actual photos, editing, and then putting them on line. Photos are on site and camera will probably be hand held. You can't usually set up the shot in studio conditions and there is rarely control over lighting or room for a tripod. I have a back drop that I put behind small items (Thee part folding cardboard under $5 from an art supply store). You also need something to cover the table. Time lines can be tight especially when you are doing it for more than one, or if the auctions are weekly. But you can do most of the off site work on your schedule. I charge $300 per auction. Depending on the time of year I will usually do one to three of these a week.

This is really a great approach to making some money and having fun doing it. The only suggestion I would have was to look at a compact light studio light enclosure & lighting kit. Cowboy Studio sells these in complete setups at reasonable prices. I have been working with one to do close up's of items that are to be placed on e-bay. Google "cowboy studio" and there site should come up. Good luck!

With no free space for the set up, many items too large for a tent, too heavy too move, time constraints , deadlines , and number of pictures . the only choice is the cheap and dirty route. They are laid out for the sale, and we go from there, with the camera.Moving from table to table, and item to item.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I use use a tent like the one suggested for a jewelery design studio where I have lights and a tripod. It just wouldn't work for the auctions.
