I don't think the lens is lacking anything. All digital images need a little post processing. A little sharpening, a a small boost in contrast is not uncommon.
What you captured, and did very well, are eagles in their natural environment.

These pictures were taken below the Conowingo Dam in Harford county Maryland. Because of the abundance of fish and natural breeding environment there are dozens of Eagles, Falcons and Hawks that frequent the area. There is a park along the river and the Eagles will land in the trees along the walkways or do there fishing just below the dam. On any given weekend it is easy to find hundreds of photographers in the park. The Eagles are very cooperative.
