I currently own a Canon 70D, and I wonder if anyone has owned/used the 15-85mm lens. I want to add this for my bag and eliminate a couple of lens, but I am wondering about IQ.

Which one are you referring too, the 1.2L11 or the3.5 5.6?

It is an excellent lens, a little vignetting but otherwise absolutely excellent. The build quality is superb, the IQ is very good. I passed mine down to my son when I purchased my full frame but I never regretted the purchase of that lens.

I have had most of the Rebels and the 60D. I had the 18-55, 18-135 of the EFs. I added the EFs 10-22 UWA. I though that I had all bases covered. I found a EFs 15-85 at throw away price. I bought it and used the crap out of it. Blurry is correct in warning about vignetting, but I did not find that to be a problem.

Unlike Blurry I still have that lens and I added a FF and L lens. I still use the 60D a lot and I am letting the GD climb the tree. Yesterday she got my T1i and 18-55 EFs.

I see many 15-85 lenses around at budget friendly price along with UWA nice kit can be put together!

I tried multiple general purpose zooms, and the 15-85 is the best compromise of value, image quality, compact size, and build quality. If I had to have just one general purpose lens, it would be this one (I own about 10 Canon lenses, three L glass). Second value zoom would be the 18-135 which I keep on my SL1; it will produce excellent results over a long range in a compact package.

I believe Canon's only f/1.2 L II lens is an 85mm prime rather than the 15-85mm tele the OP was asking about.

The lens mentioned is a great lens on FF, but to my taste it is too long a start range on a crop (24x1.6=38.4. Image quality on my 15-85mm is as good as any of the L lenses that I have owned demoed.

Ditto on the 18-135.

If you are talking about the EFS 15-85 ...It is an excellent lens. I sold mine when I switched to full frame but it was one of my favorites.

I think that you will be very happy with the lens, I would ask one small question.... Do you shoot video? The 18-135 STM also offers high quality optics, it reviews much better than the original 18-135, and it focuses remarkably fast in video on your 70D, I tried one on my 7D Mark II and was very impressed with the video focus. Build quality is not as good as the 15-85 and the wide end is not as wide but the optics are quite good on that lens.
