Rokinon 14mm f2.8 for Nikon

I just purchased the chipped version of this lens for my Nikon D610. I'm currently evaluating it and it seems sharp enough but does display some distortion. I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this lens. Considering the price it appears to be a good deal. I also looked at the Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 zoom which appears to be sharp but is much more money and considerably heavier. I need a wide lens for landscape work.

It is 14mm, just a few years ago the only 14mm were fisheyes. All the distortion can be corrected in PP.

I use one with my canon 6D and 7DII. Just every so often I forget it is a manual lens and have to reshoot.

I use both lenses and they are sharp but do have distortion as do all lenses in this range.

Be careful how you align the scene and depending on what editor is used some of this distortion can be mitigated.

It's an excellent lens, sans distortion from all the reviews I have read. It is hard to avoid distortion in making such a wide angle lens also, and so for the price it's a nice deal. I am strongly thinking of getting one myself eventually, but I got the Nikon 18-35mm F/3.5-4.5 bargain for FF, very good optical quality but only a consumer grade lens, but I can use filters. I shoot a lot of waterfalls so wanted to be able to use filters without those huge and expensive contraptions by Lee.. but I may still get me one of the Rokinons also, for playing with stars at night. I won't be needing a ND then :-)

A lot of people in my photoclub (including me) have this lens. We love it. The distortion is an easy fix in LR. It is nice and sharp...great for night photography too!

That lens blows away both Nikon's and Canon's premium offerings in regard to sharpness, the knock on that lens is the distortion which is complex and not easily corrected in PP.

If you are doing landscape for enjoyment it may not be a huge problem, if you are doing it commercially then maybe you should consider the Tokina, I recently picked a Tokina up used on ebay for $400 and it is like new... and very sharp.

For Architectural work I would seriously consider the Sigma 12-24 DG II, I have that lens also and at 12mm distortion is significant, but by 14mm the distortion is much reduced by 16mm it is almost gone.... It is also very wide on a crop camera. My reason for purchasing the Tokina was to shoot nightscapes, I actually like both lenses, the only drawback is that you can not use filters on these lenses, even the Lee and Cokin filters do not work on these lenses.

I have both of the lenses that you are inquiring about. I shoot Canon and when I added FF I needed to fill the UWA slot. I have budget restrains. Many purchase a UWA and then don't use it or don't know how to use then dump it. I ended up with both the Prime Korean and the Tokina the same week. I thought that I would evaluate them then decide which way to go. I still have both and use both. I would still like to try the two new Canon f/4 lenses.

Not sure which two f/4's you're talking about but the Canon 16-35 keeps haunting me as well, excellent image quality and it takes filters.... which is important in landscape photography.

Bliurry, the newer 16-35 f/4 looks great the best I have found it is above the 800USD barrier. The other is the Canon 11-24mm f/4 L which at 3K is well beyond anything but a dream. Many say that Canon may be loosing money on this lenses but like many they needed to step up. I thank you for the heads up on the Tokina. I may of ended up with the Canon 17-40 which is OK but not the stellar lens I was looking for. I know some one that uses the 5Dsr and the 11-24 almost exclusively as he is a scape-guy. Great images.

I have the Rokinon 14mm for Nikon. I use it mainly for night photography of the Milky Way and Northern Lights. I love it as infinity is my main focus point. I do use it on a tripod. It's downside is you can't put a filter on it. I'm thinking of getting the 16-35 Nikon for that. But it's pricey! But with the 14 I get a little more of the sky.
