Sounds to me like you are describing Adobe Lightroom to a "T".
Oh, forget Picmonkey, it won't do what you are asking.
Abobe Lightroom is a standard. If you have a Mac and a smaller budget, then look at Apple's Aperture.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions.
To Snowbear: LOL, I don't have a Mac, do have a Iphone and not crazy about it, so not a real Apple fan, think they are over-rated, plus, you mentioned if you have a Small Budget, there is nothing small budget when your dealing with Apple, nope, I have the PC Windows, good enough...but I am sure if you have MAC this would be a great program. Thanks again.

Why not just use windows if you want to move the photos from the card to the hard drive? or am I misunderstanding the question? Bob.
Paint Shop Pro is also a great program and is cheaper than Lightroom. I use both of them equally.

I'm a Mac user but I find Aperture to be not so hot. One the other hand, Pixelmator, an economical program for Mac devices is a wonder. Interestingly, it comes with a built in Channel Mixer which is important for infrared work. It's not too expensive, IMO a near perfect photo manipulator and integrates perfectly with Mac's free iPhoto app.
I also think Photoshop it too expensive for photo hobbyists such as I.
Try the free PICASA 2, (from google) excellent for filing and basic fixes for pictures. OLDJIM North London.

except it is now PICASA 3...and it has a lot of newly added editing capabilities.
Can't beat free Picassa for all the basic stuff.
why not faststone image viewer, its freeand fb.
Get Lightroom and take a pass on the free stuff as it does not compare. If you need additional editing get Adobe Elements. I find that Lightroom does just about everything that a digital photographer needs unless you are going artistic and need the capabbilities of Photoshop.
