I believe it was left there for Billy to rest his weary bones.

Billy, Is it possible to carry the sofa out into the field beyond and capture the image in this alternative setting? Might be really interesting to see the sofa inbetween sky (which is really grand in your photo) and ground.

Debbie your idea is not without merit but we have a few stumbling blocks to overcome on the way. This was taken in the UK in Aug and Im now back home in the Philippines. Also if it was not just a matter of 7000 miles a man with a sofa on his back trudging across a farmers field is very likely to be arrested in England and for sure will meet a large farm type dog trained in the not so gentle art of male emasculation and how does one protect the wedding tackle whilst maneuvering a couch across plowed furrows?
So I respectfully await further instructions but would rather not go through the rest of my days with a high pitched voice due to having lost some parts I have grown quite fond of.
Thank you for calling by and taking the trouble to inspect my humble offering and have a good Xmas and happy New Year

Point well taken. I like the capture alot... now knowing the story behind the photo it could well be entitled 'Naturally Relaxed'.

Billy, the tonality is quite good. That requires spot on exposure. The depth of field is also quite nice. The subject is just enough "out of place" to make it an interesting and well composed image.

Nicely found and well composed anomaly-image, and I always enjoy a bit of whimsy/mystery. I am not a big fan of the darkest darks at the top of the image, but that is probably just a personal preference. I like that you left the utility poles in, they definitely add rather than detract.

Did you consider leaving a folded newspaper and a red umbrella on the sofa?

I'd say this photo definitely needs the red umbrella to make it complete. :-D

Found myself missing the Professor's critique and scoring method.

At the end of a long life they just get put out to pasture.....

It lifts my heart to think of them running free after a life of imprisonment and abuse at the hands of a boisterous family.

If Pink Floyd ever issue another album, this would look good on the cover :) .

To min and Bob Malarz,
When I spotted this sofa all sorts of possibilities occurred to me but all required props. A drunk sleeping on it, very easy to find a drunk in the UK. A coffee table and steaming mug of tea. Yes the newspaper and of course a red umbrella. However it was many miles from where I was staying so Im afraid I was not able to utilize my often over fertile imagination

That thieving bounder known as Bob Malarz currently is in possession of MY umbrella but do not fear Billy is on the trail.

As a life long PF fan I have to say that is a great compliment to end my year with. Thank you my friend.
